vanced directing class. All in all, it was a lot of fun to create and it was a lot of hard work. I've always had fun with creating "fan films" ... I'd like to think that we (my whole cast & crew) were really tipping our hats to those that gave us inspiration. Battlestar Galactica is a spectacular television show on Sci-Fi and I would highly recommend anyone to view it.
This film was more of a technical challenge to see just how far could we go, as far as telling a story with a lot of visual effect shots. Which, was a tremendous achievement at the University because a story of this scale has never been done before. Again, my good buddy, Jorge G. helped out with t
his project. If you'll notice from the credits of all of my films, you'll see how he's my right hand man... partner in crime, if you will. But now that my student film projects come to an end, its with a heavy heart that this film is my last fan film I'll ever make. From this moment on, everything

I think you've got a bright future ahead of you in filmmaking, but Battlestar Galactica (the "reimagining") is so shizenhousen that it's holding you back. As you say, you should definitely stick to original productions rather than aping someone else's broken style.

Nice video. Although it's disappointing that this is all that can be produced with a digital imaging degree. I can honestly make comparable, or better CGI scenes (and am working on making them.) and I'm 15. I realize this is a student video and all, but the only effects are a dozen or so models flying around with a starfield in the background. You've got some good camera angles going on here, but some particle effects are kinda needed since the whole video basically is CGI.

I'm not trying to bash the maker of this video. It is a great video, and I love BSG. I'm just saying that years of learning to earn a degree should merit a little bit more in the effects department. The CGI for the real Battlestar Galactica series is created by a team of people in Lightwave 3D. This program contains tools for particle effects (allows for explosions. engine exhaust, etc.)

Yup. created by a "team" of people. And Zoic didnt use particle effects they went out and shot an enormous amount of pyrotechnics for the mini-series and theyve just re-used them ever since.

Well yes for the older series, they used pyro effects. But in the newer seasons (I know for sure in season 4) they are using all CGI to do effects. They have no need to use pyro clips if they can just do all the explosions and smoke and engine effects in real time, in 3d.

really poor amateurish CGI work. If it was film made by some kid it'll be good, but you're studying it for crying out loud. This not a piece worth anything else but F.

I don't know what you've got over there, but as far as I know- 'Advanced Directing' has nothing to do with CGI. Unless you've actually looked him up and checked what other classes he's taking, you are no one to flame him about the CGI work.

i as director (student at the time) wouldn't dare to release that s&^#. don't tell you couldn't find no one on film school who would help you with cgi, or for that matter better directing coach.
