Actually the Sig 550 series is all metal in the upper and lower receiver, the only polymer parts are the handguards, stock and pistol grip. And also, the G36 does not "melt" (although I do also prefer the Sig, can't beat that Swiss quality)

The contract for the g36 was signed 8th may ,1995 and arrived troops in 3rd december,1997. it dosent matter! its a nice rifle! i had a lot of fun with it! XD

Yes there is the SL-8 which is acutally more a hunting rifle based on the G36. It is semi-automatic. Just google for HK SL8 or check wikipedia. ;)

Only one thing to add:
First: The 3x integrated aiming-optics (with red-dot) are generally only available for the german army, the 1.5x is the export version. Second: The civil version, SL8, is only available with lowered mag-capacity of 10 rounds (I think), but like many things, this can be modified ... ;)

You can actually put 31 rounds into a G36-mag with no problems (aside of maybe compressing the clip a little to much).

yeah, but that way it takes to much time. just put 31 rounds in the mag and go.
you can still put one in the chamber, so 32 is even possible.
but round-chambering is only useful as onetime prep - its unpracticable in actual combat situations
