I think Peter Gabriel is a musical genius, and Phil Collins is great too, but you can't compare them they are far too different. This is one of my fave songs from the Gabriel era of genesis. His voice is just so haunting! xxx

Some of you too young to have seen this live cannot possibly understand how groundbreaking this music and stage show was. Parts of it may seem dated and even campy by today's standards, but Genesis were always able to laugh at themselves. They were able to do these strange things on stage and write enigma-like verses because the music was, and remains today, masterpieces. In 72, 73, 74, when you looked around the audience, half the hall were other musicians, most with their jaws hanging open.

Not entirely true. Case in point, this song was written by Tony and Mike. Pete had written all the lyrics to the LLDOB, except the Light Dies Down on Broadway, again written by Mike and Tony. Pete did want to do all of the writing after that, and didn't want to go back to sharing writing duties. He also left due to family problems

With Peter it was ART progressive rock.. they were hot live! PETER knew how to put on an amazing show! Caught them 3x's they were hot!
