This video exposes the truth about the large number of animal injuries and deaths at rodeos, particularly the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
On the bright side, in 2008 the Cheyenne Frontier Days committee promised to eliminate electric prods used on animals in chutes, and they stood by their promise. SHARK hopes that is a sign of more positive steps in the future.

This video made me cry! Those calves would have some serious damage after being brought down my their necks. They are scared, so they run, and because they run they get viciously roped, some die. This is manslaughter, and in some cases murder. If a human did this to another human they would be jailed. So how is it not cruel to animals!!

rodeogirl105: The wild horse race another way to break horses to ride? I can garauntee any horse that is in one of those races can never be ridden again without serious issues! Do you think that the only way to get a horse to accept you on its back is to throw a saddle on its back and try to stay on until it stops bucking or collapses from exhaustion? I've taken horses who have never been ridden before and worked with them and rode them within a month and to this day they've never bucked for me!

I am more about bull riders than anything else but the rodeo is steeped in American tradition. DO YOU RIDE HORSES?? Well sorry but someone has to break them first. There are many horse people who train without force but that is not much of a sport. AND NOONE HAS MORE RESPECT FOR THE ANIMALS THAN A COWBOY!! They tried resuscitating a calf??..how is that inhumane- to give the cow the same care as a heart attack victim in the stands. By the way you try branding a cow while it walks around.

Are you actually an American cowhand? There are ways to train a horse for riding that don't involve abuse or 'breaking', you should know that. Awful to have an animal that barely raises it head four feet off the ground. As for calf roping, they are valuable animals, everyone knows roped calves are slowed gently before easy restraint for branding. Yes, rodeo originated from traditional farm work but you fail to see, as it is now a profitable sport.

The welfare of the animal is not all that important compared to prestige and prize money. I've known several cases where an animal with a broken leg was shipped off to slaughter instead of being shot there and ending it's pain, what they do for a few dollars more...you still want to link rodeo with American tradition?
