Thank you for this tribute to Emily, whom I am teaching this week. As I am reading her work, I am reminded of her quiet, patient endeavor to write from the heart. Your line, "so many lives untried"--speaks to my heart. Women of her generation had so few lives to try. The music and the lyrics and the performance put me in a peaceful place--quiet Amherst. Yes, I've been there too...read Emily's poems aloud in her bedroom. Collected golden and crimson autumn leaves from her yard. Her poetry was another whole language. Nothing like it before or after. Into the Mystic is also my favorite Van Morrison song. Very nice tribute!
