Empirical science calls for observation, it's testable and repeatable. What took place during those millions and millions of unobservable, unrepeatable, untestable past doesn't qualify.

Oh I dunno, use critical thinking, look at all sides of the argument, honestly listen to all of them, be skeptical, always allow for the possibility that you're wrong, try to separate your emotional state from your judgement, don't engage in wishful thinking, don't bullshit yourself, be aware of the human capacity for pattern finding and seeing connections where there are none. True...well just to let you know I am very open minded I believe in Evolution, I believe in conspiracy and I believe in God. Those to me are just beliefs. Thing is I wanna learn what goes on in the real world. Thats what I'm interested in. I wanna adventure like -Well I don't know like the movie National Treasure. It depends on what is at the heart of this desire. The need for truth must be pure, free of any expectation of what you want to find. You have to be prepared to put everything you hold dear on the line and subject it to rigourous doubt and analysis. You have to want to know the truth, no matter what it turns out to be. You have to be prepared to give up your dearest delusions in exchange for the unwelcome truth. That is what is required to be truly open minded.

We can never learn absolute truths, because there's always a possibility of being wrong. What you can do is build up conditional truths and come up with alternate explanations for what's going on and make a judgement of which is most likely. Look at the claims and see how well they match the evidence. Consider the validity of the evidence. Science is reliable because of the inherent falsifiability of any scientific theory, and the self correcting peer review process.
