illinoisbear: No more Public Enemy? Where have you guys been? They released 4 CDs in the last 2 years. Check out "Rebirth of A Nation" (was mostly written BY Paris). One of the best but not the latest. Rap is NOT DEAD, its just that the commercial crap that gets pushed as 'rap' gets more play than the 4 last Public Enemy records you guys don't even seem to know about. So BUY THEM.. and what you wanna hear will return. I think social message rap is about to come back anyways. Help it out!

How ANYONE can debate that this man is the greatest emcee in history is beyond me. Tupac, Eminem, Rakim, and Jay Z are all dope, but none has the lyrical content, dexterity, sense of urgency or command on the mic that Chuck D did. In his prime, I always said Chuck D was 15 paces ahead of every other rapper. I still say what Chuck D did from '86 to '91 can never be matched in the annals of hip hop, because it was unprecedented. N.W.A., Tupac, and all who came after were only able cause of Chuck.

Rakim is the greatest lyricist - his word play and style are sick! He was #2 in Kool Moe Dee's "There is a God on the Mic" 50 greatest MCs. Chuck was #5 - 8 can't recall. However, with presence, command, SUBSTANCE, word play and intensity - Chuck and PE reign! Flav is perfect compliment. I love both Rakim and PE and Run DMC. All are masters, with RUN DMC being the first Godfathers of Rap. But PE may have eased by them a bit. Also Whodini is mad underrated.
