Very useful... just think of the video hardware you'll need to make it work, and the re-training you'll need just to flip windows around... I'm just too old for that crap...

Well, I run this on NVidia 7300 and integrated intel i915, which I think are one of the least powerful cards on the market.
People don't ... ( 1 year ago by a1mint)
People don't realize how even basic 3D cards can scream pixels around like there is no tomorrow. I played with jogl-demos for a bit on a crappy ati 9250, and it totally rocked. User interfaces are not tapping into this amazing power. Looking Glass does, but how about creating a nice Linux distro with it? How about an Lookibuntu or something...
Why would you want ... ( 1 year ago by tberben)
Why would you want to make a seperate distro with LG3D, you can install it on any existing distro to eiter replace or complement your current window manager

I tried it out. It sucks. The res of the pics is bad, not intuitive and many glitches. Stick to beryl

this is what you do to keep yourself entertained when your OS can't run any of the industry standard software packages

Even with all this running it will use less than a third of what Vista uses when idle.
Everything I run on ... ( 5 months ago by jonothewright)
Everything I run on Linux meets standards and works better than anything on Windows in my experience. You have clearly not done any research into it or even tried out the OS for that matter and as such are just a fanboy looking for a fight.
photoshop ... ( 5 months ago by googleboughtmee)
photoshop illustrator flash cubase 3dsmax maya logic autocad finalcut etc etc etc - yep i'm sure you have all those on linux.
There are OPEN ... ( 5 months ago by menace82)
There are OPEN SOURCE alternatives. But if we want to be "jailed" into windows proprietary software, we just fill a glass of "Wine" :) (BTW, blender is better than maya and 3ds...)
While people uses ... ( 4 months ago by devotionalcrisis)
While people uses Cubase on Windows, we can use Rosegarden on Linux. With the help of Hydrogen, it becomes so great! While people uses PowerDVD or Windows Media Player, we use Totem, Mplayer, Xine, Noatun (do you miss kjofol?). I use Gimp in place of Photoshop. Dia is of great help, too. Blender is faster on Linux. Povray is very good on command line mode. Even on my Zoom G7.1ut works properly on Linux. Yes, I have an legal Cubase copy, but now I use Rosegarden on Linux.
But still, I don't ... ( 4 months ago by devotionalcrisis)
But still, I don't like the 3D desktop stuff. Although both windows and linux has shown tendencies to be used with them, I think the power of the CPU must be used by the tools we have to use and not by the OS desktop. Even if it can be used in idle time, it will be unnecessary code running and power being converted to heat without need. The computer must be useful, not beautiful. Well, I know you all likes eyecandy. Everyone does.
