I always loved that ending. Yuna was originally supposed to die. In a way Tidus was caught in the deadlock of his own existence and Yuna's. As any animal the natural instinct is for life and to live on no matter what. However Tidus then neglects his own right to live in trade for Yuna's fate to die. It's so wonderful!
