Gene Autry, singing cowboy and sci-fi hero. You read that right. In 1935, Gene starred in the oddest movie serial ever, "The Phantom Empire". This is a steam punk smorgasbord, where radio-activity and television rays vie with cowboys and Atlantis.
I was surprised this was made in '35, such things as radium bombs and death rays run throughout the serial. Bizarre just isn't the word. You can watch the entire series at the Internet Archive. The action here was just too fast paced and lively for anything heavy, so some Green Onions seemed
to fit the bill. This is the Flying Monkeys performing the Booker T and the MGs classic, a straightforward rendition the swings along nicely. Some rights reserved. Welcome To Route 66.
