This was actually a fantastic tip. I have taken classical voice lessons ( which uses the most strict techniuqes) from one of the top musical schools. This is very in line with my training, throat tension is the enemy!

abramd16. Does your teacher know about Singing Success Progam? I have been using it for 2 months and it has improved my voice. My mix is getting stronger every day and I am starting to increase my range. I have just above 3 octaves, before I couldn't even hit up to the 2nd octave. Check it out

I'm not sure. I just switched to a new teacher today so I don't really know that much about him. I can't remember the techniqe he uses but he said it means "Beautiful Singing"...It was an italian word I think (maybe french) He basically told me today that you want to sing from the diagphram, don't tighten the throat, and focus all your air up in your forehead (if you understand what I mean) I only have 2 octaves, so bravo for getting 3!

abramd16. Yes I know about diaphragm singing. Don't be put off by what I say, but I went to so many singing teachers and all of them say you have to sing from the diaphragm, I find that put so much more tension and strain in my singing, so I done hardcore research on finding a good teacher or system, and I did. What Singing Success has done for me is controlled my breath control, I can sustain high notes up to 30-40 seconds with vibrato or any trills. I suggest you go to Singing Success Online..

..continued, and check out the free videos. They show actual lessons and how they make their students exercise their voice, they also give free advise on warming up the voice and relieving tension. Also try the lip trills that this video is showing, trust me this one will balance your voice and relieve the strain. You have to do it correctly though, I would recommend not putting your finger underneath your chin as this probably causes more tension, well it did for me. But hey everyones different

At my lesson today he said my main problem was that when I start to get into my higher register, I as a natural reaction tense up my throat muscle and it makes my voice go a bit flat. I've been practicing on relaxing my throat and it has helped a lot.

Hey. I've just been asked by my band to be our lead vocals now, I'm almost 14 and my voice dropped last year. The problem is I'm not really a great singer, I usually strain my voice quite a lot, and it makes it sound kinda bad... I also have a falsetto, and can reach about G# (16th fret on e string on a guitar). Would anyone mind giving me any tips to improve and sound better so that when I sing it doesn't sound as bad?
Cheers!

Opera is a must to ...( 4 weeks ago by aquatiger1987)
Opera is a must to practice if you want to be great, but you may sing whatever genre you please. Remember to sing in your range, if you're tensing up.... your out of your vocal range. Don't worry though, with practice you can extend your range. If your tensing up to get to a note, just don't sing the note in the first place. Practice scales so that you can reach higher notes without tensing up or squeezing. Humming in scales is a great exercise to start off with.

thanks for the tips
Same as the person under me I've also been asked to be lead singer of a band. And I'm absolute crap (I've been told, many times). So I'll need as much practice as I can to make myself hearable. (I made that up)

Right on guys. Keep singing. If you want a great home-study course, I highly recommend Seth Riggs. Find him online. Buy his course. I don't even get paid to say that. But I don't recommend anything I don't believe in myself. Believe in yourself and practice Consistently. And take care of yourself.

A delicate balance ...( 3 weeks ago by moneymasterjet)
A delicate balance between self-confidence and arrogance. A hard lesson. But not impossible to learn. Confidence comes from practice of universal principles and technique. Sincere practice and honest self-assessment lead to relaxed confidence in oneself. So, practice your singing and believe in yourself.

Sound recorders on ...( 2 weeks ago by HollyTheFireNinja)
Sound recorders on phones or cassette tapes are played in Mono. It does make you sound like you have a blocked nose, I agree. You should try plugging in a pair of headphones or earphones (If you have any, otherwise consider free alternatives) into your phone or cassette tape recorder. If you have a headset, plug it in, turn off your microphone mute and you should be able to hear yourself. Recording is not necessary, if you just want to know if you're going off-key when singing.
