This might be my favorite of the many, many remixes of Love Child. My only regret is that Ms. Birdsong and Wilson are not on it. But in any event, it was a hit and that's what it is all about!!

Why did Motown have the Andantes sing Mary, Flo, and Cindy's part so much?
Was that Motown's way of telling them just how replacable they viewed them?
Diana Ross and the ...( 3 months ago by oceanbound222)
Diana Ross and the Andantes were so much better than Diana Ross and the Supremes. Pixie and Dixie were not used in the studio much of the time. Yet, Pixie forgot to mention that in her 2 biographies of Diana Ross.
actually MARY does ...( 3 months ago by laxamr2)
actually MARY does mention that.... in fact, she was told by Berry that if she took vacation one particular week she would be left off Love Child, and she didn't really care.
If you hate our girls Mary, Cindy, and Flo so much, why do you waste your time listening to the group's music???? You make my skin crawl.
The Andantes never ...( 3 months ago by laxamr2)
The Andantes never sang while Flo was in the group... they started much later on, during the "D.R.A.T.S. era"
I think it was a complicated issue, to be honest with you. Part of it, in the case of Love Child, was that Mary was told if she took this particular week off, she would not be on the record... she still decided to go away. By this point, they were so exhausted, over-worked, etc.
Anyone know how the ...( 3 months ago by laxamr2)
Anyone know how the royalties work on the Supremes records with the Andantes or Waters Sisters? My guess is that Mary and Cindy get their normal amount, and that as in-house "session singers" the Andantes got a salary and no more... what do all of you know?
I know many people ...( 3 months ago by etrax2000)
I know many people are annoyed at oceanbound, but the reality is that Mary and Cindy at this point were not comfortable with their voices enough to produce really great work. They would blend much better with Jean later but around here if you listen to the various outakes from special cd releases they were just not that great vocally.
I would agree on ...( 3 months ago by etrax2000)
I would agree on that completely. Add that to the fact that Cindy's contract was never equal to Mary's and I suspect that Diana was getting more from Berry than the other Supremes; (Don't even go there ). Diana paid for her big house in Beverly Hills while Mary and Cindy had to share an apartment. And i believe it was in a less than desirable part of L.A. And later they both had to borrow money from Diana.
I don't know why ...( 3 months ago by etrax2000)
I don't know why this album cover is never in cluded in any "GREATESt ALBUM COVERS EVER" surveys. and I have seen many such lists. It was quite shocking in its day almost like having Barbra Streisand appear in a leather jacket with a mohair haircut and a pierced ring in her nose it really stunned people at the time. And it totaly added to the concepts that were being represented inside with the music. I guess people never really could see THE SUPremes as ever realy beeng deep but they were more
I actually think ...( 3 months ago by laxamr2)
I actually think Mary & Diana were probably pretty equal financially; I think I read an interview where she says that she has never questioned that to this day. Mary and Cindy were never roommates... where did you hear that? Once the Supremes & Motown moved to L.A. for the most part, Mary did buy a beautiful house of her own in the Hollywood Hills - but I did hear that Cindy was kidnapped around this time. Also, I don't know that any evidence suggests that Cindy ever asked Diana for money...?
Well Mary, ...( 3 months ago by laxamr2)
Well Mary, particularly, had EVERY reason to be very proud of her lovely voice. She was a part of some of music history's biggest selling and most famous songs.... no reason why she should not have felt confident at this point. I still agree that Mary just didn't care to fight at this time; she was burnt out and wanted vacation one week, Berry wanted to record, and the rest is history.............

This is in reference to a comment made below that the Andantes never sang on Supremes records before Flo left. There is a new book out about the Andantes. It is sold on Amazon. In it, Marlene Barrow said it was she and Mary Wilson that sang the background on "You Can't Hurry Love". There was at least one other Flo-era recording, "My World Is Empty Without You" that Marlene sang background with Mary because Flo did not show up to record. Who knows how many other records may actually be Marlene?

the 60's was a historical time for the supremes with diana ross. It was a time when life was changing and war was going on...kind of like now but with more diverse culture going on.

laxamr2: "in fact, she was told by Berry that if she took vacation one particular week she would be left off Love Child, and she (Mary) didn't really care". She was right, a true Star deserves vacation. It's a matter of fact years later Mary's fan-base took a definitive vacation and didn't really care... that might explain why Mary "solo act" hasn't sold more than 25.000 records for the past 30 years? I'm just saying...
Was that Motown's way of telling them just how replacable they viewed them?
