If you've managed to learn all the basic cracks, use some of the patterns shown here as inpiration to learn more.
I'd say all these patterns can be learned by experimentation, trial and error. So if you see one you like and you don't get it right away, keep working at it. I also recommend getting a 6 ft stock whip to learn these patterns. They can be learned with a bullwhip, but they can be learned faster
with a stockwhip. Check out www.westernstageprops.com for both bullwhips and stockwhips. Two of my favorite stockwhip makers are Chris Barr (www.deadringer.com.au) and Russell Schultz.

I'd say all these cracks can be done with a long handled bullwhip that is well balanced and finely tuned. I only use the cow whip because it is similar to a stockwhip, though cheaper and easier to replace. I only used this whip in this video because it was white and I wanted it to show up against the green background.

Yes, it is. Once I finish the whip orders I have, I'm hoping to learn how to make nylon cow whips myself so I can start using my own whips more often.

This is amazing but a video can not duplicate how awesome this really is. I had seen you at the Arizona Ren fest this year and I was amazed. By the way, how can you still hear? Those whip cracks are extremely loud.

great !!! besides all the basiccracks, is it helpful to learn flicks in all directions, back and forth and so on? As a "second step". Right? ...or volleys in different planes? *grmmpf :-)

Yes, it's great to learn the flick so you can do it forehand and backhand, at every angle you can manage. Learning the volley in different planes is also good.

ok....my 8ft austrailian nylon bullwhip doesn't flick very well due to it being so light. i can do it with most leather whips i've tried, but not nylon. could it be that it's not broken in enough?

The flick usually works better with a heavier whip, as well as a more broken-in whip. So it could be that your nylon whip is a little light or the balance isn't quite right for an easy flick, but if you keep practicing and experimenting you should get it.

Check out the video I did about the volley. In that video I use a 6 ft 16-plait kangaroo bullwhip that I made. With most of the videos, I used Indy-style bullwhips, either IOAB or David Morgan, because a lot of the people out there trying to learn to use whips have Indy-style whips.
