My point although, i will confess poorly made at 4am, is that the whole theme of the song is pointed towards the bush administration.
"By claiming God as his holy rock, he's stealin' a God from the Israelite, stealin' a God from the Muslim too".
At least in terms of todays political landscape there are very few other people he could be talking about, especially those that would fit in league with the other lyrics included in the song.

Martin has always attacked religion and the Bible in his music. John wrote the book of Revelation, so why couldn't the song be about that issue? I don't see the political angle, but I suppose anything is possible. I just think that Martin and Dave, for that matter, detest God and organized religion, and they came up with a good song with a great beat to attack once again.
