The popular version certainly is, but the Christian Mystics clearly understood that the difficult stuff is still part of God. there is nothing 'degrading' to hinduism here. people dance and sing songs to kali and other matajis all across gujarat, just because there not dancing in a circle or not 'indian' doesn't mean there worship is any less valid, god dwell within every soul, and i feel god is very much with them.
