Okay why this? I have been getting many e-mail and questions about my stretch vids... Many like them, Thanks more to come, and many think they are, well, to aggressive or violent as one said, and that I am bouncing and I should not be stretching that way because I will get hurt, it should be gentle and relaxing and yadda yadda blah blah...
Well I am 40, and have fixed all previous sport injuries I attained through training, due to the fact that teachers teach wrong, never say or can show principle, and we just don't know or see it for ourselves!!!! The western problem is just that we are not taught deep enough about proper mechanics
of our bodies. Sure we can recite the bible of stretching and so on, but we just don't internalize enough into daily lives down to the bone... Its not our culture to probe the body and mind this way.... So injuries occur and we believe the BS that goes around or why we get injured and then our tra
ining suffers!!! The combined IMA/CMA flexibility, agility, stretching and strengthening and so on, are advanced foundation building blocks for those who want more from their body and there body to grow old gracefully. In contrast IMA/CMA is not sport training and therefore we should not sport war
mup the same way as for tennis or for basketball. I am all for cardio and physical fitness, but not in a sport way anymore. My idea is after achieving sport fitness, look to attain training deeper through the IMA ways of building the body here forth... Just look to the vids of teacher Wang in his 8
0's, he is a living example of what and why I train this way... Human bodies are not geared for sport and core strength in old age, as we get older weakness sets in and this is what and why we must train... IMA/CMA training is just that, it allows oneself to see more that just fighting, but the fig
ht is inside with oneself... Ones daily life style, work, bills, spouses, family and so on... The fighting skills are just a by-product of practicing and self defense skills are attained... Sport fighting and IMA/CMA for me are two very different animals... I am getting older why would I practice to
hurt myself, instead I practice to live longer and healthier... Sorry for the rant! I hope all enjoy objectively... mike martello

Learning the basics ... ( 1 year ago by Pawl2)
Learning the basics for anything is something overlooked too often in our society. I train Parkour, a relatively new discipline that you may or not be familiar with. You're views on your discipline has influenced mine on my own. I just wanted to say thank you!

Your flexibility is off the hook Mike, your fundamental are on point no question in mind you train hard. After looking at your clip give me the inspiration to go practice more stretching in my own personal workout. Good video!

BT your welcome, glad you like the ideas. I just want people to understand some ideologies that are not addressed enough to MA. Likewise why I like your vids also, always addressing practicality and basics... peace...

Still no objective ... ( 1 year ago by justinkennethmail)
Still no objective proof, only anecdotal evidence. Chinese MA refuse to adapt and will therefore atrophy and die. The MMA revolution has caused chinese TMA to become a "cult" which flees from science in favor of mystic generalities.
I whole agree TCMA ... ( 1 year ago by mikemartello)
I whole agree TCMA is dying out and people just do not want to put the time in for results. It a sad truth for todays generations... MMA is still very young compared to TCMA. I also believe the hard MMA training as we get older is just no good for the mind, body, spirit... So I train TCMA for this aspect and I am happy... thanks for your comments.
Some facts. Yang ... ( 1 year ago by justinkennethmail)
Some facts. Yang style tai chi, wu style, xing yi, ho style are all relativley new styles as well, developed within the past two centuries. MMA is not that young. It's been around since the turn of the century, making it older than sun and wu styles of tai chi. Look at helio gracie, he's ancient and in top health. Unless TCMA can prove itself as a MARTIAL art, it will never survive. Look at Judo, it is an evolution of TJapanese MA.

This is useless to debate. if you are happy doing what you do, MMA it seems, and believe its the correct way then please continue, trying to debate and convert people is a dead end. Spice is life, and its great that MA has so much spice, TMCA or MMA, or whatever. Keep training and be happy...

12 months ago i was so stiff... in a forward bend (back straight) my hands would barely reach my knees. i've taken up yoga and now i am very flexible for a guy my age(hands flat on the ground!). it helped my martial arts, but something was still missing and i think i have found it. mike i(and others) thank you for sharing this. i'll keep u posted on progress!

Hi Mike
Fantastic video. I have a question for you - certain stretches, particularly the one you demonstrated at 1:18, is fairly painful for me. Should this be so? I feel a lot of tension in my knee and have a lot of difficulty bending my waist. It feels really tough and I'm not making any progress. Funni
ly enough I can do the front splits no problem and am making progress on the full-splits too, but this is proving to be troublesome. Any ideas? Thanks

People put too much weight on what "style" you practise, instead of having a "style",just say:"here I am as a human being, how can I express myself honestly and completely?"."Be water my friend".

we all know what bruce lee said mate.

the problem with this tap eis loads of theory but the theorie does not match the video ... so it gets confusing, try saying less at a time (talk less leave more silent moments to show what you just explained ;-) that would be usefull really ! just my point of view ! greetz g
g8, the vid and ... ( 8 months ago by mikemartello)
g8, the vid and talking are 2 projects, i overlayed the 2 for two points to be made. the stretching pics are to show basics, the talking is theory that lacks understanding and not addressed by many. this is why is start with static pictures with voice over, so the two meld instead of clash. later video shows the practices... so it seems busy but if you look closer you will see the 2 are separate but as one idea in cma. peace mikemartello

hi , i think i understand what you want to explain still the tape makes a sort off "blurred" impression by most of all the rythem and way of telling (repeating some things a lot), so the problem is mine obiously, i like more cleancut explanations ... cheers g

dude nice video, but could these excersizes rip muscle fiber? because for example bouncing or moving during normal stretches apparently tears muscle fiber. and also when should i do these along with my workout. thanks for the vid
