A deadline for Russian troops to withdraw from Georgia has come and gone, leaving NATO frustrated and worried.
The NATO gathering in Brussels comes amid continued diplomatic efforts to ease the crisis. Both Russia and Georgia accuse the other of "ethnic cleansing" during the conflict over South Ossetia, which erupted August 7. Finland's Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb, representing the Organization for S
ecurity and Cooperation in Europe, was in Brussels on Monday to meet with representatives from the European Union, NATO, and the United Nations. The OSCE is working on a plan to increase its observers in the region to 100 people. Russia's president launched a verbal volley at Georgia's leaders on

Opavlyk if South Ossetia is part of Georgia then why kill its own people. After 1400 dead civilians including 700 children Georgia doesn't deserve to ever even think about getting those territories back! What kind of monster would allow such thing to go on...Russia stepped in and stopped the bloodshed and now our media and Europe's punishing them for it. Blood's on those hands who support Georgian act of aggression that prompted this war in full scale from the beginning.

Russia has recalled those death tolls. Their new figures put it at just over 130 civilian deaths which pretty much nullifies Russia arguement for invading in the first place. Between lying about civilian casualties, prestaging large military forces on the Ossetian border, and then conveniently recognizing the 'independece' of not one but TWO Georgian territories so they can stage huge numbers of military personnel on the Georgian border under the disguise of 'peacekeeping speaks of Russian guilt

Well done, Russia. It's time someone defies the united states of arrogance. US gave the independence to Kosovo, why shouldn't Russia give the independence to S. Ossetia and Abkhazia? Who gave US the right to do whatever they want in the world and not allowing others to do anything? Americans say that the II WW and their liberation of West Europe gave them that right. But don't forget that Russia also helped liberate Europe...they conquered Berlin. We shoud be proud a European country defies US!

The Georgians and their stupid president have been used as a guinea pigs, just to test how Russia would react. Now they lost regions permanently and pappa Bush can't do anything about it. Yesterdays West rush for Kosovo independence is hounting back. Russia is not a third world country that West can say to them "Do as I say NOT as I do". West played Russian roulette and it blew over Shakashvillis head. Go figure
