The short but intense, and unusual, battle between Michael and Mika at the Italian GP in 1998. Having nearly stalled on the start line Michael Schumacher has made his way past Villenueve and Irvine and chased down the McLaren of title rival Mika Hakkinen and is pressuring him for 2nd position, w
hich is where this video kicks off. Out front is David Coulthard in the sister silver arrow, who is running a two stop strategy (compared to the single stops of Mika and Michael) and attempting to break away. ITV feed.

Schumacher- 91 wins Hakkinen- 20 wins Schumacher- 68 poles Hakkinen- 26 poles You can't realisticly compare them with each other, Schumacher was in a different league, as this video proves.

the maclaren in that year said "we can win with 3 laps of avantage" the championship show that is wrong!!! all defines in JAPAN the last GP!!! SHUMI was the best of that year and SHUT UP the mount a all people that giv for champions to maclaren (excuseme my bad english)

we do also have to remember at this race hakkinen's brakes were failing and he had to "brake" for nearly 40 laps by merely lifting off his throttle, thus why he dropped away so quickly, and also why he out-braked himself into the rogia before he got overtaken...but nonetheless the class of schumacher was evident here

That's a false comparison. That comparison is only valid if they had equal machinery. Michael had the best car for most of his career, Hakkinen didn't. This kind of comparison is for people with a Schumacher bias, but it's highly shortsighted and simplistic, no real weight.

Hakkinen started in Lotus,and drive for thid team in 91 and 92.
And drive to Mclaren in 93/01. 2 times world champion,and who is your best opponent? I need to say more?And yes,Schumacher 7 tmes world champion,but remember Austria?Or remember Irvine?The real Dick Vigarist.

schumacher had the best car for many years. but in 1998 the mclaren was by far the best car. schumacher managed to keep the championship open to the last race in japan, althoug Hakkinen had the superior car that year. schumacher is the greatest.

How do you know how good that Mclaren was? If it was so good, then why didn't Coulthard do anything with it? Why is it only ok for Michael to have the best car? Remember 2004? When he won like 13 races? Then look what happened in 2005.

Remember the first races of 1998? McLaren was so dominant that they lapped almost the entire field. It's absolutely ok for Hakkinen to have the best car. He did in 98. Why Coulthard didn't do anything with it? Cause he has not the class of hakkinen. 2004 schumacher had the best car. And nobody was good enough to compensate the gap through driving capabilities. unlike schumi 98. The ferrari 05 was far from the pace. But still, Schumi managed to be third in the championchip. He is the greatest...

Wow, I'm so emotional watching this! What a race, what drivers and what a seasons. It seems yesterady and ten years have gone. After what happened in Spa two month before when I saw DC's engine blow up I was an happy boy and then Michael spit roasted Mika and I went totally beserk... F1 is so great.

Well, all F1 experts say tha in 1998 McLaren had a far better car than Ferrari. It was due to Michael's driving abbilities to keep the championship open. As for 2004 he had the best car, he is the best of all. As for DC who ever told you that he is a good driver ?? And as for 2005, Ferrari didn't won just once because FIA changed the rules, especially the tyre rules. And don't tell me Bernie was not involved.

I'll miss those days, Schummy & Hakkinen, they were the best seasons in F1 95-99. Of them all though its probably Murray Walker's commentary i'll miss the most, "Never Ever give Michael Schumacher half a chance he'll be like a ferit up a drain pipe". Classic
