Of course she may not be as good as the ten favorites I've picked from the last half century, but that doesn't make her a bad voice or a bad singer.

The ideal repertoire for a voice is based of from the lowest and the highest,note,the color and the "weight" many soprano may have Lucias's high notes but the agility of a lighther voice that is requiered for this role(you can check the score)
The ideal repertoire for Callas?almost all the verismo leading roles and some of bel canto,specially Tosca...she was a great Lucia cause she was very good actress with a very histrionic voice

I beg your pardon, but Tosca doesn't belong to what we call Belcanto (Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti etc...). And to me Calls ideal repertoire goes from Gluck to Puccini, and her best roles were Ifigenia, Medea, Norma, Armida, Lucia (with Di Stefano and Karajan...), Abigaille, Lady, Amelia, Tosca, Butterfly....

Gluck definitively not,cause Gluck is between baroque and clasicism,but is still considered baroque so the singers must to sing in style,im a countertenor and i have sung Gluck's Che faro senza Euridice many times, u just can't sing baroque like if u were singing Puccini,that was pretty much what Callas did when she sung Che faro senza Euridice or Caruso singing Lully!

By the way Gluck's Orfeo is another example of bad vocal choice,too low and heavy for many mezzos and some contraltos find it high!(there r many versions of this aria) definitively too low and heavy for a soprano who was also singin extremely high and light roles like Lucia or Lakme...Che faro senza Euridice and le air de las clochettes from Lakme r pretty much vocal opposites don't u think?

This sounds like a very early recording, and this sounds like a time when she would actually practice her repertoire. Her coloratura is right on, which is isn't now, her high notes aren't a step flat like they are now, and she is singing beautiful music.
