A snowstorm on the morning of Jan 16th 2007 left about 3-4 inches of snow and ice on the ground in Portland, Oregon. This is what happens to people with too much confidence in their 4WD and zero experience driving on icy snow.
Video was taken around SW Salmon and 20th Avenue, which is pretty steep (to be fair).

Yikes, a bit of snow plus a lot of ice it looks like.(hard to tell) Anyhow I live in Michigan, and driving in that kind of weather is bad news, even if you have four wheel drive, you slide sideways...

that first guy's stupid "duuh i just hit a car, did a 360, hit a pole, ran over the sidewalk and am now heading towards a wall, what should i do? FLOOR IT BABY!!!" hahah by the way, I'm in Michigan too (east Lansing) and people around here are actually smart enough to stay inside with this kind of weather.

It doesn't take a moron to figure out to slow down if its snowing out, but I guess not in Portland, maybe too much weed and alfalfa sprouts really do clog the mind

Yeah, just don't leave your house if the streets are that bad, it'll save money on your car insurance.

That is a pretty wicked part of town, hill-wise, but my goodness! They look like they're getting carried around by a river or something! In all fairness, it snows like that MAYBE once a year, so we're not exactly accustomed to it.

some people live in places where they have to drive in inclement weather half the year. but those same people actually know how to drive and take care of a car.

well think about it ice is slick and gravity pulls you down hill, hmmmmm what does this mean wait, wait for it... oh! maybe I shouldnt randomly floor it down hill and cut my wheel back and forth!!!

Ive lived in Portland all my life and even though the winters are cold and miserable here, we only get actual snow once a year if were lucky- this video was taken in the west hills-which i can see this happening here. Portland drivers rarely use chains.

IIRC. The 80? year old man bouncing off everything with his foot on the gas at the start of the video was a business owner who had never missed a day of work in his life??
I felt pretty bad for the old guy but I'm self employed too and one of my favorite things to do on a day like this one is to stay home and watch the idiots on TV smashing their cars. This one was the best ever. Love the smashing sounds.
Common sense folks, ... ( 1 week ago by Izekio)
Common sense folks, if the road is iced over, don't go driving. Especially if you don't know how to handle it. I'm just seeing drivers getting into a panic that don't know how to handle a skid. Anyone who got in a crash there over steered and applied way to much gas way to fast. Chains are a waste of effort unless you're stuck in the ditch, if you need them to drive on a snowy road do the world a favor, STAY AT HOME. Tired of finding someone else's paint job on my car. Learn your limits.

I remember that day ... ( 1 week ago by jdbart333)
I remember that day, It was snow and ice across the state. I was in the Rogue Valley and at took me 7 hours to drive 25 rural miles, granted I spent 3 of those propped against a mail box in a ditch because of the inch of ice on the road I think we had gotten like 8 inches of snow that day. After moving here to Portland I was wandering how people handles the snow and ice on these sloped streets, well this answers that, next time it snows I'll be staying in my dorm room where its safe
Yeah, I personally ... ( 1 week ago by SSone97)
Yeah, I personally don't like to be around most 4WD drivers in the ice. They seem to wanna prove something, but they forget that stopping is a challenge on ICE for anyone. They thrive more on snow pack and mud. Ice don't give a shit.
I bet that makes ... ( 5 days ago by doobisbone)
I bet that makes for some great entertainment from your balcony but c'mon folks who get out in that sh*t.. if it's hard to walk, don't ya think something with 4 wheels could move on it?!?
