o not suggest imitating the way I hold my sticks in this video. The right hand was situated in such a way that ended up giving me carpel tunnel, and the left hand has many flaws as many people have pointed out. My doubles also had a very choked sound. I no longer play traditional grip, and have b
een taught much more appropriate ways to handle the sticks with matched grip that are more healthy and efficient.

you COULD call it a swiss... but then you'd be wrong. the technique is pretty terrible but at least he took the time to actually learn some stick control. this 6 stroke pattern is reaalllly useful. i use it all the time (i have a video up). I'd suggest to learn this if you havent already. learn the whole rudiment sheet for that matter and make use of it... he's using tap 5 stroke rolls at the end RllrrLrrll. p.s. set your drums up more ergonomically and you'll hit more drums...

lol, for your sake, TenorDrummer, im gonna tell you this... no it is NOT a good set grip. the french grip on a drumset should almost always only be used for riding and crashing... .MAYBE if you were trying to recreate a timpani technique single stroke roll on a single drum. your general grips should be alternating between american and german grips depending on what youre doing and whats comfortable for you. that french grip will screw you.

Good hands. Good work. I'll try what you suggested in the video. Teaching feedback: You would be much more engaging by looking at your audience when talking to them. In your case, that means looking at the camera, not at your drums. I also agree with another poster who suggested positioning your drums more ergonomically, so you don't miss the heads so often. This may mean a bit more angle on your mounted toms. Thanks again for your video. I will try it! (Matched grip.)

Tecnic is good.The snane rings too much and cuts into the smooth motion of your playing, muffle the snare.Also Shield the mic(s) as to not let them blair and distract from the performance.

I've always wondered about this but never asked: Is there a correct way to hold the stick? Like, I know a lot of drummers hold their left stick with their palm up, but for some reason I've never been able to drum like that? Is there a big advantage to holding it palm up?

The advantages: It looks cool, it respects tradition, and physically, you can play with more finess/softer notes with more ease. Disadvantages: it's harder to learn and develop chops. It's more difficult to get around the kit.

Well Done! This RLLRRL pattern (which could be called an inverted paradiddle-diddle) is very useful for playing fast groups of 6 notes. The natural accents on the singles embellish it too. I think the A+B pattern RLLRR LRRLL is better explained as two 5-stroke rolls put together to enable you to play groups of 5 in the space of 4, that is, 20 to a bar of 4/4. Played fast, it sounds like groups of 6! It can also be played all singles. Getting it FEEL RIGHT and natural takes a bit of practice!

I only know how to grip but can't do chops with it (sorry that I'm the nub), I learned it from watching about 30 youtube videos teaching trad. grip and read about 10 websites on it. I asked my teacher(s), 1 taught me what geekusa used (palm up) and the other taught me what I learned from my research but more relaxed, which is what I use now if it's just a simple backbeat or I just want to show off. xD

oh i see whats wrong with your left hand trad grip..you never play with your palm facing upwards plus your thumb has to touch the second knuckle of your index finger..
