I liked this very much, but I kept having the feeling that he was not playing HIMSELF, but rather was concentrating on sounding like Maynard. Still, it was pretty terrific. jenny

The name of the song is "Maynard Ferguson". It was written by Shorty Rogers for Maynard Ferguson as a feature with the Stan Kenton Band.

Arturo Sandoval has the exact transcription note for note in his evolution of jazz tribute book.
notice he did miss an Aflat at 1:47 as well as other crucial notes. the ending was awful on the bands part, no dynamic contrast. he's a screamer. but no finesse

holy crap man. I'd almost think that you somehow recorded Stan Kenton twice, but damnit man. Wonderful job!!! Great band too.

that ain't no .480 bore horn and 0 mouthpiece. there are a lot of guys with range but only one maynard ferguson. remember maynard's overall power and musicianship as well as his range. most trumpeters couldn't touch his ability to improvise. still; a good effort and i'm sure scott will end up making lots of studio money. UNT is a fantastic music school.

I will take the Boss's thoughts and feelings about Scooter over some of the comments here. (no offense)
If you never had the chance to watch Scooter play with MF, then you might not realize how much MF thought of Scott. There were many times on stage, when MF would seem almost unaware of everybody else in the room, as he stood to the side, and listened to Scooter play.
Sorry but that's ...( 9 months ago by jakeengler)
Sorry but that's very untrue. When Scott plays it looks effortless. There is no one I've heard that sounds like and plays like him. His precision in the upper register is unmatched in my opinion. There may be someone else, but Scott is just unbelieveable. This looked like a walk in the park to him.

shit great job. that is one hard ass piece. maynard was a monster, and one of a kind. I'm sure that there are very few people in the world who can tackle that song and live to see another day. 5 stars.

i dont care wat anyone says! for a man of his age to preform something of this level takes some talent. you have to rremember people that he was only about 23 or 24 when he recorded this and he has done an amazing job. this is good by anyones standards
well done scott!
