you say the same ... ( 8 months ago by spleenbuster)
you say the same old worn out crap everyone else says. what about more than one, blah blah blah. there is NO effective fighting against more than one opponent. and if you are fighting someone with a knife, maybe you should start hanging out somewhere else.
It's the same old ... ( 8 months ago by BlackstarSirius)
It's the same old worn out crap because it's the realistic stuff to be concerned about. A lot of Striking arts are perfectly affective against multiple assailants, and those standing-grappling arts (Aikido, Hapkido) have a lot of great knife defense. A well rounded martial artist should have some level of understanding of all three, and be prepared for those nasty unexpecteds rather than assume it "Probably won't happen to me."
Correction, aikido ... ( 8 months ago by grizzzler)
Correction, aikido and hapkido CLAIM to have a lot of great knife defense, just like wing chun claims that if you train it you will knock anyone out in 3 seconds, just like Dik Mak praticioners claim they can kill people by touching them. We've seen pretty much all the traditional martial arts fail miserably against one unarmed opponent, how is it supposed to work against multiple opponents or armed opponents?
And you THINK a lot ... ( 8 months ago by grizzzler)
And you THINK a lot of striking arts are perfectly effective against multiple assailants because you watch kung-fu films. Have you ever actually witnesses first hand anyone beating up 5 people at the same time. I am willing to bet the only proof you have of your claim is seeing Jackie Chan beat up 500 people in a movie. Of course BJJ is only effective one on one, but if you ever been in a fight instead of watching films you'd know so is just about every other martial art.
what do you suggest ... ( 7 months ago by ronhudsonjr)
what do you suggest people do then, when fighting opponents with a concealed knife? how would you possibly fight a guy without getting stabbed, when his knife is concealed?! and i completely agree with GRIZZLER. People only believe that Martial artists can beat up 5 people at once because they see it in movies. But what If those 5 people are BJJ guys, i dont care what you have or know, your done! unless its an AK or something...
I don't get da ... ( 7 months ago by ScarecrowC)
I don't get da argument what if someone has a hidden knife. Da knife won't b hidden if they were attacking you. Da only reason a knife wud b hidden is if you were attacking them 1st. I also miss da point where people say grappling arts suck at multi opponents, there are standing fast grapples ending in breaks whilst you put your opponents in the way of 1 another like a shield, which is a better way of fighting than any striking martial art can boast as u r protected & removing them from battle.
Check out Pedro ... ( 7 months ago by Genki1970)
Check out Pedro Carvalho's DVD's on street self defence and you learn about weapon defences and the like. Most BJJ schools also teach BJJ street techniques, not just ground work for sport and mma. You can also check out the gracies street defence system and others if you take the time to google it, or better yet check out a school that teaches the stand-up self defence aspects of BJJ.
...Continued... If ... ( 7 months ago by Genki1970)
...Continued... If that is not possible get one of thier DVD's on the subject of Street self-defence and you will get a better idea of BJJ for the street. Some of the talk here seems to be fromthose who are not well versed in complete BJJ training that involves the street real side of BJJ.
if someone pulls ... ( 7 months ago by UncleMowglie)
if someone pulls out a knife the best defense is to run.. run like a mofo and dont stop fuckin runnin..
Demian is a 7-0 ... ( 6 months ago by Bigturns33)
Demian is a 7-0 Mixed Martial artist. He is by far one of the best grapplers in the world. This DVD is not street techniques. Its BJJ competition Techniques. No doubt all these go into any type of fighting but this DVD is for BJJ techniques. And lastly dont bash. This man would have you on the ground and choked out in a min so please.
Who will be looked ... ( 6 months ago by brainspew)
Who will be looked back on as the greatest martial artists of all time? All of the current fighters who could compete in almost any sort of martial arts competition and win are ones that have a plethora of styles and are open to many arts. Bruce Lee took the best of each style (yes he even trained jiu-jitsu) and formed a style from all of them. The past and present greats have proven time and time again that you need to train in everything. No one style can work everywhere.

Bruce Lee didn't ... ( 5 months ago by Zothos)
Bruce Lee didn't train jiu-jitsu. He trained in Shooto. And JKD wasn't his style. The Tao of JKD was published after his death, and it wasn't even written by him; it was written by various people who were close to him based on some writings and notes that were left behind after Lee's death. But I do agree with your assessment. You have to cross-train if you want to be effective as a fighter.
