Hello, the vocalist is a Harmonizer it take your voice and add harmonie to it, two part harmonie tree part harmoni it is conected midi with my laptop i just hit the foot switch and i have harmonie, you have to didicate a midi chanel from your song to the vocalist so it can reconize the key that you sing in. a litle complicated but it is nice when you play solo. Thank you

And it works for piano etc? on Digitech homepage it says only for guitar...Can I connect one of my synths direct to it? Do I have to have a good singing voice or does it work like Rolands VP550?

Yes, it have a midi input it is dedicate to a midi track on the song and it is contole by a foot switch so wen hever i need vocal i just it the switch and it harmonise my voice in real time. Thank you for your interesse.

I hate to be picky, but I'm looking at the promo pic of this unit off the Digitech web site and there is definitely not a MIDI in or out. I think its cool the way you used this thing and Im trying to figure out how. I know this thing has a line in for the audio send of a keyboard, but I wondered how you switched the harmonys in and out without hitting the foot switch on the unit itself. Are you using the Live4 unit and somehow switching it externally with the expression pedal input? Thanx!

He looks to be using one of the original Digitech Vocalist models which used MIDI note information from a keyboard to select the key for the digitally generated harmonies. These models had a 'MIDI In' just as he describes.
More recently, Digitech decided to return their focus to guitar oriented effects, which is why the floor-based models used pitch (presumably from a guitar) to select the key for the harmonies.
The current 'Vocalist Live Pro' does have a 'MIDI In' for keyboard control.
