well, in the book he slips her and her mother sleeping pills. then when lolita is knocked out he does things to her. then he sleeps with her and when she finds her mother is dead, she has no where to go. she is only willing twice in the book. but she really likes to tease.

Well, she's more than a sexual object to him. He's completely obsessed with her, sexually to an extreme degree but also the idea of Lolita as pure and intact, especially in reference to his past and his mental state.

I think that in the book, after some point, even after they slept together, he actually falls in love with her.

yeah, that one girl he never got to have sex with when he was 12? yeah, she really reminds him of that one girl. he is deeply in love with her, but even though his love is suppose to be geniune, it doesn't deter the creepiness factor. at least to me. it's nice to know that some people read the book instead of just watch the movie! :)

Dear Reader, I pray, be not too hasty to contemn. Were that you played in this scene, could you say with all certainty that you would not succumb to a blissful arousal? A saint couldn't resist such a tantalizing morsel. Ah, but I'm a sinner, and did eat of that forbidden fruit presented to me by my sweet nymphet. Ulalume, Ulalume.

Well Americans like to make fun of British people as well. Humbert in here is a paedophile and he has an English accent. Americans ALWAYS use a British actor to be the "bad guy."

The original author ...( 1 week ago by dollydot123)
The original author of "Lolita" was Vladimir Nabokov. Nabokov was Russian, not British. NB: I've read "Lolita" from cover to cover, it's one of my favourite books.
Anyway, saying "Americans don't like to read things that are complicated," is hardly making fun of them. Lolita (Domonique-an American) seems unperturbed by that statement.
