I hate detuning half-steps, just get a 7 string instead or lower bass or baritone guitar.

First of all, 7 ...( 3 weeks ago by TheJestersDance)
First of all, 7 strings are tuned to B standard which is completely different than Eb standard.... Unless I missed something, what you said makes no sense. This is a great lesson.
I meant that I ...( 3 weeks ago by seth3556r)
I meant that I really don't care to detune much. I prefer to detune a full tone instead of a half tone, and if I really want a chunkier sound I would use a 7 string guitar instead. I really dislike detuning half tones. Understand better or do I have to say it again?
If you want to play ...( 3 weeks ago by TheJestersDance)
If you want to play with a "clunkier" sound. You don't have to use 7 strings. Just tune your guitar to B standard, you're only left out with the high E string.
And if you tune to Eb, D standard, C# standard, etc... It really doesn't change anything; it's still the same shit just in a different key. Unless of course you know how to work your chords/scales/modes well enough to play in something other than Em which, judging by your view on 7 strings, you don't.
What the hell is ...( 3 weeks ago by seth3556r)
What the hell is that supposed to mean? I study music theory. I know more keys than just E minor, I can do any key I want because I have been studying theory for two years now. Don't give me shit because I don't want to debate you about tuning (my opinion on detuning will never change). Plus why would detune to play in another? That just tells me you're too lazy to play any thing else. I'm studying Jazz Theory right now, so I have know chord scale relationship and scale degrees.
Okay and by the way ...( 3 weeks ago by seth3556r)
Okay and by the way for you to tell I don't know any thing besides E minor (Aeolian you meant to say) is absolute bullshit, because you don't know what your talking about, or let alone who your talking to. I usually mix up with many different scales, chords/arpeggios (different progressions, and I can play in all keys .
I've studied music ...( 3 weeks ago by TheJestersDance)
I've studied music theory quite a lot too :D. But that still doesn't mean you can't understand something.
I never said I detune to play other stuff or w/e it was you said (couldn't understand the contradiction). Most of the time I detune is when I'm covering someone else material or for a singer. I was pointing out that even if you are in Eb standard or B standard. It doesn't matter. The only difference are the notes being played but it's still the same intervals being used.

No problem, then me and you have something in common. I don't really do that, but finally somebody agrees with now about tuning, but mainly I would do that on some circumstances (if I had scale that be used more with "pedal points" if I detuned my guitar). I just like to keep away from half tone detuning, it has been used so much that I would rather go beyond boundaries never sought (if you know what I mean).
And I understand ...( 3 weeks ago by seth3556r)
And I understand what mean about intervals and it makes detuning easier in those cases, but I rather not play Eb tuning.
Well THAT makes a ...( 3 weeks ago by TheJestersDance)
Well THAT makes a lot more sense now. Yes, I agree Eb standard is pretty over used but it being 2008 now I think any tuning has become somewhat overused in it's own way. I myself try not to worry about what tuning I'm in but rather what I'm playing. I see you like Symphony X (saw them last year!) and the way Romeo uses exotic scales is sooooo cool. Cheers.
Hell yeah my friend ...( 3 weeks ago by seth3556r)
Hell yeah my friend. I been memorizing his scales and some of my own. I use Major, Harmonic Major, Harmonic Minor, Double Harmonic, Melodic Minor, Whole Tone, and Diminished H-W [(W-H) octatonic version, not the 7th degree of Melodic Minor). Those are basically the ones you gotta memorize for that outside sound, plus he uses some of those (pretty much all that needed for anything, but you can get it great by turnarounds and key changes.
