My thoughts on this.
Note: I am an atheist - but I accept others beliefs IF they choose to believe in it and NOT shove it down my throat. But I find Catholicism and Christianity in general to be very hypocritical. I am open to any forms of correction and discussion on this matter!

I agree with you, ENTIRELY, dude. For me, WYD i get the privaledge of ignoring all the religion crap, and am able to have an optimistic view on the event - its brought a few good friends of mine from the USA over. But definitely agree with the Catholic hypocrasy and turning back people. Religion is horseshit. Spirituality, however, is what is winning over these days. Believing what you want, in the manner in which you want, and then practicing that spirituality in the times and places you want.

It's all so fucking hypocritical. All the festivities have the guise of being so carefree, open and happy with all those groups of people playing their guitars, smiling and waving at you, but it's all a lie. Beneath this 'happy' exterior is the cold, harsh truth that breeds discrimination, segregation, delusion and bigotry. The only thing that disgusts me more is the way the NSW government is so willing to give into the Catholic Church. Makes me wanna get out of this country.

I'm not hating or anything, it's just i wanted to express another point of view. I`m a pilgrim from Sydney and I think your interpretation of the catholic faith is not wrong, but bias. You describe it as a religion or rules of life and thats it. I see it as a faith, that guides a way of life. As a young catholic, wyd wasn't a testament to our popularity, and the bible isnt taken literally. This religion is subjective to your own interpretation and not just what the church says.

WYD was a congregation of those who share the same beliefs i do. It was a culmination of minds and hearts that were searching for answers to questions we all ask and doubt. It wasn't a popularity thing. It was a gathering of people trying to reaffirm not to the outside world, but to themselves their faith. By far we did not want to prove anything on our popularity and i profusely apologise if it seemed that way but We wanted to find answers to our questions, together and be able to pray as one.

For me, the people, ideas and experience shared are inexplicable. The insightful sharings and ability to combine with people all over the world touching peoples hearts and allowing others to imprint on yours reaffirmed my own faith as everyone had their own story and their own perceptions to share. The cathecisis aroused questions and allowed all to engage with serious matters of the church and we found that WE are the church, not just the pope or the clergy but the youth, and like our authority

we make mistakes. I just want to make clear that were not deluded, we know the mistakes they make, and we dont base everything on the church. our religion is not the rules of the church, it's in Christ. It is about our faith and our understanding on a personal level. We pilgrims are only young and we dont know everything. But what we do know is how God has affected our lives. I don't take the bible literally, rather interpret it to fit my life's context.
