In its formative years, LOST WEEKEND Western Swing Band was essentially an "acoustic" outfit, with the exception of Bobby Black's amplified steel guitar.
This performance of Tommy Duncan's "Time Changes Everything", at Berkeley's Freight and Salvage, is from a VHS video recording from the collection of Paul Kealoha Blake (East Bay Media Center).
Don Burnham - Rhythm Guitar, Voc.
Bing Nathan - Bass
Bobby Black - Steel Guitar
Jim Rothermel - Reeds
Kevin Wimmer - Fiddle
John Reischman - Mandolin

Cowboy Jazz..Western Swing ! ! ! This is a terrific rendition of a classic. Hearing these guys trade solos is a splendid example of Jazz tradition and the players are awesome. I am very familiar with Bobby Blacks expertise as he is clearly one of the best in the field, but the other players are great as well. So this cut is 18 years old !!! Quit hoarding treasures like this for yourself. Thanks for the post pardner keep up the great work.

Verlon your comments are appreciated, I also viewed some of your favorite clips and found them most enjoyable. As you are probably aware Bobby was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in St. Louis recently. I appreciated your earmarking of so many great players that I rarely get to see. So thanks again for the response and the clips of great performances. Keep on picking.

Glad to hear you appreciate the "old" greats. That's definitely my speed. You really have to hunt to find listenable music these days! THE ANSWER is to go to the archives OR find guys like these! Have you seen much Southern Gospel on here? 50s, 60s, 70s ?

The original core players are still playing, and there have also been some additions over the years. Please visit the bands website for more information regarding live performance as well as more background on the band. Support live music in your community. Keep swinging.

Peg.. Thank you. Regarding posting more, I have documented a wide array of artists in our community for over 2 decades. The advent of new distribution technologies such as YouTube have made access to these archives possible. The artists who have been kind enough to allow documentation over the years remain the last say on distribution of their archival material. I'll release more material as the artists adjust to new technologies. Support live music in your community.

That's Bobby Black ... ( 11 months ago by Alvinorey)
That's Bobby Black on Steel - he is the greatest steel player ever, yet has not had the recognition he deserves and prefers to be a sideman. I met him several times and he is the most congenial and smartest musician around ever. He has wonderful solo Albums.

Yes indeed. Bobby is one of a kind and an extraordinary talent. It has been an honor to document him all these years. This cut is one of my favorites and the talent on stage was really quite astounding. I hope YouTube viewers will run searches on musicians listed in the credits. Each are highly respected musicians, both by other musicians and listeners. Bobby has been inducted into the Steel Hall of Fame, and his legacy is a gift to all of us.
