I'd never seen him commenting on EMPIRE OF THE SUN like that. It's a film that few people watch, but it's as powerful as any of his other dramas.

"death of childhood" maybe that's why i could relate so much about this movie. One of the best Spielberg movie, humanity will see its importance in the future, it will receive more awards in the future, how amazing is that?

Thanks for posting.. Should have been a little commentary from Jim(Bale) to fill in the movies weakness.. it was disjointed, jumbled.. Narrative like in Stand by Me or Sheen's Character's Narrative in Apocalypse Now would have been great... not one of Spielberg's better films... cinematography and acting were good.. storyline was a mess.

I sort of agree. It did bore me to tears when I saw it the first time in a theater. But now I love it. My guess is that I wasn't in the right frame of mind back then, or was just too young to appreciate it.
