Had the idea in 1974, two years later over subs at Maria D's I told Richard Geiwitz and Mark Redfield during one of our legendary blue-skying sessions. Remember, in those days, you couldn't download and meash nothin'! Anyway, Richard had the Stooges short in an 8mm print and Mark had some newsreel Kennedy footage also on 8mm. A week or two later we were re-shooting the 8mm clips on a front-screen projection rig (used for stop motion animation) into the trusty 16mm Bolex (you couldn't really do decent sound in 8mm). Gave it that gritty news look. I got busy at Brenner Cine Sound (cut the darn thing on a Moviola Viewer) and the rest, as they say, is history.
