It's really a joke to listen to these comments!! Jealous and insecure women sit around talking about how other women dress, and are critical of every nuance..it is exhausting...why drag this pettiness into music?

Whow!! Super, unfortunately (normal in those times) all off a sudden the drummer or bassplayer is cicking off the beat (tempo,slow,fast)....:-)

Actually he has great rhythm. It's that he's trying to accumulate the awkward rhythmic patterns of Monk's playing into his walking. Staying on the down beat the whole time, and not having fun and experimenting would be a "white boy" with no rhythm, as I'm sure you are.

The ensemble sound would benefit from the stylings of Hans Groiner who would smooth out the unpleasant dissonances of the pianist.

Just like Count Basie, and Vince Guraldi, T. Monk liked the sound of his own piano playing a lot, but who cares? because we all like their playing too right?

if you loose the pianist it's no longer monk. Does the dissonance hurt you're mainstream ears?

What happens there at 5:30? The tempo drops as if something has been edited over.
The dissonance is ...( 1 month ago by Zoroastrus)
The dissonance is precisely what makes Monk's music so modernly catchy, and timelessly linked to worldly ancestral patterns. Just can't get enuff!!! It's beauty working it's way through the soul. Peace.
