On the other hand, your point about lag has some truth to it. I'm not sure anybody ought to use Sergio as an example, because other than his really great week at the Players, he hasn't had too many weeks where he wasn't hitting it all over the place. But Els _has_ developed a really nasty habit of bouncing out of his set at the top, actually opening the angle a little bit--see Swing Vision clips of him on youtube from about '03 to the present, maybe even earlier. He didn't used to do that.

That really is a beautiful swing. I'm sure it's not 'traditionally' great, and it doesn't follow the 'manual' precisely... but can't fault the man. He's a hell of a golfer.

The worst golfers always give the most advice. Before posting so many critical comments of Tiger's swing, why don't you also post your handicap, then we'll determine if you know what you're talking about. I had a guy try to correct my swing once, I'm a seven handicap (he didn't know). Then when I asked him his, he told me he's never broken 90. Anybody who has broken 90 shouldn't be giving any advice to anyone.

Also, you have to understand that when pros talk about hitting it "70%" or "three-quarters" or "80%" or whatever, it's not strictly accurate; it's a feeling they have. If Tiger says 155 yards is 70%, that would mean his normal full-out 8-iron is around 155+66, or about 221. That ain't happening, without some really special conditions. Announcers are the worst about this--"He hit a little 3/4 9-iron there, Jim, about 145." Oh really? So his normal 9 is about 145=48? 193? Right.

One correction about "3/4" golf swing comment. Golf announcers are actually correct when they refer to a "3/4" of "80%" club because they are referring to swing speed not distance. And the correlation between swing speed and distance is not 1:1. Swing speed affects the launch angle, spin, and force at impact which all affect distance. Except when using their drivers, pros rarely swing at 100%. Slower speeds provide more control with little lost of power for professionals. A tip for all players.
