I have seen ...( 1 year ago by CONTESTAR)
I have seen Mesentzeva "live" many times. I have seen lots and lots of ballet, though I wouldnt dare presume I am an expert. My amateur feeling though was moved the most by her performances than anyone elses. Once at a gala evening in Athens people wouldnt stop until she danced the Dying Swan for a 2nd time. Actually, forgive the sacrilege, this was the closest to Pavlova I've ever seen... with the fast desperate arm movements...

I agree with you ...( 1 year ago by TribalDanceArts)
I agree with you absolutely. My teacher was first soloist in Pavlova's company for the last few years before that great lady died. I was trained to move like Pavlova, and this video is mesmerizing. I wish I could see the entire performance!

Her foot has a pretty high arch. My arch on pointe is way more pointed than her's.
i read the comments ...( 1 year ago by DanceyPrancey)
i read the comments before i watched, and i must say she looks unnaturally skinny. yeah some people are skinny but ballet dancers get muscle through dancing not eating lots and 'packing meat on' but you cant get muscle if you dont eat enough...so i think she is anorexic.
I heard that Maya ...( 1 year ago by ballerina1984)
I heard that Maya would wear fake arches in her pointe shoes to make her feet look better. Anybody hear the same?

When Swan Lake first was created and shown they didn't like it and mocked it brutally. It was totally unacceptable to society.

When she danced ...( 5 months ago by raymonda100)
When she danced this in LA many years ago, the critics called her an "anorexic bird."
Many felt that the extreme thinness was very unnatractive. After the review came out, they revised her costume to make her torso look fuller - and it worked. But the arms still looked anorexic!

If you want to seem arms like water, be sure to see Maya Plisetskaya's version.
Thinness doesn't ...( 5 months ago by KittyStarlight)
Thinness doesn't necessarily "look anorexic".
I think that she neither looks nor is anorexic,
and that it's silly how so many people
these days just automatically think
"anorexic" if someone is thin...or
"fat" if someone is not extremely thin...
or whatever!

I agree the term is ...( 5 months ago by raymonda100)
I agree the term is overused. I should have said that her extreme thinness made here look emaciated - which is a more accurate word as it does not imply that she has an eating disorder. Many viewers of that performance - people who love the ballet - agreed and felt that it detracted from the performance. It is not a criticism of the dancer to say so, just an expression of preference.

To raymonda100: Oh, okay, I understand. ^_^
(I think that there's probably some other
better word than either "anorexic" or
"emaciated"...but at least "emaciated",
as you say, does not imply that she has
an eating disorder [only that she's one
of the starving kids in the TV ads...
oh, well, never mind...I understand
that no offense was meant! ^_^].)
I think that her thin arms look graceful...
but hey, it's very much a matter of taste,
and to each his/her own! ^_^

I would say that ...( 5 months ago by KittyStarlight)
I would say that she looks very slender,
and that some people find that attractive
while others do not. (To me a slender Dying
Swan looks significantly more normal than
a huge opera singer portraying La Traviata
or someone else dying. Then again, apparently
a lot of opera singers are big so that they
can have big voices...I've only ever seen
a few who were small and yet had big voices
[pretty impressive though, when one does
happen to see them! ^_^].)
