This is one of the greatest, most creative and original bands I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. I have known of them for almost 16 years and because I live in the U.S. have never had the honor to see them live. But I hope than one day, I should get that pleasure of seeing Ms.Drecker live. She puts modern American female artists to shame with her amazing vocals. I wish more people could be exposed to them instead of the manufactured drivel we get on our radios. Thank u for posting!

Sarah McLachlan debuted in 1988.
Bel Canto in 1985.
And why on earth does there have to be any relation?

thelimp, you are correct Bel Canto did debut before Sarah, BUT there is a relation. They were both managed and distributed by the same company... Bel Canto was on Nettwerk in North America and may have been in Europe too! There are actually some late 80s shows that they played together!

My comment was more a reply to trougounounprout's suggestion that Bel Canto is/was some kind or rip off.

I come from the same city as Bel Canto. They made music in their bedroom, creating the sound on their own. No big studios or "big shot" producers involved.

While they may have worked to create their own sound, which most bands do, Bel Canto's first album was produced by Giles Martin, Sir George Martin's son, who is most definitely a big shot producer! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Bel Canto and find their music to be amazingly original and incredibly inspiring, but to assume they were in no way influenced by the music trends at the time, or helped by producers is simply wrong!

fantastic! Truly original. A favorite of mine for 20 years now. I too hope to her live some day. I still listen to their first 3 albums frequently.

It's always so sad when great groups disband. The solo acts never measure up to what originating band was. Yes Drecker on her own is good.... but the synergy that a band has and how they play off each other seems not to be stressed enough in the success!!!!!!
