No Carl! Nooooooo! Don't waste the Sagan DNA!
The closing is a tad anthropocentric on Carl's part, but i imagine he was playing to the (human) audience, or, hadn't quite gotten to his critical position against anthropocentrism yet. That seemingly arrived with the Pale Blue Dot.

I don't know... all I can say is that big questions like the ones he is answering "need" a little anthropocentrism... something to distract you from the fact that you are an apartment complex for cells :) ... I joke

I agree that it IS a diquieting prospect; I certainly wouldnt trust anyone today, with our selfish and wanton lust for self destruction, to screw around with that type of power. I think humans have to evolve in terms of our ability to understand and be aware of consequences before we ever alow that to happen.

It's incredible that every system in the universe is made up of even smaller systems which are, in turn, made up of even smaller ones. Quarks, to atoms, to molecules, to DNA, to cells, to life, to planets, to solar systems, to galaxies, to galaxy clusters, to the universe... and whatever may exist beyond that. Truly fascinating and astonishing.
I love this show.

This show is amazing, the fact that we all have a little universe in us all is quite amazing.Anybody who believes in god or any religion for that should realy watch this show and peticular this episode and realise that we did evolve from trees, sky, fish, then eventually apes. There is way to many facts involved and we have so many similariaties is just amazing, that people still think that god made us and not science is just amazing.LOOK AFTER OUR HOME otherwise we wont have one much longer!
The myth that ...( 4 months ago by SirNewt)
The myth that ascribing no one religion will leave you empty and leave your life meaningless is an insidious one in the USA. How can the idea of matter arranging itself into a structure which wonders and studies about itself hold no awe inducing thrill? Conscious life is the ultimate recursion. In the future to journey to the oldest known star will be the true great pilgrimage of man. Reality will play out our ancient myths and great religions.

There are several things that are sacred; some are common; marriage, family, love or eating food. Others are overpowering; evolution, infinity, the universe, a sudden holistic vision of the world. Others are under powering; death, nothingness, infinity or will.

Oh, wait; i could explain why marriage is sacred for me. I can not explain why marriage must be sacred to you.
I stand before the altar, and before my mind is the past and the possible future, and i made that choice. From now one, every choice i make is grounded within the choice i am presently making, if i leave or stay, it does not matter, my choice will be grinded into my memory.

I am describing a non-linear mind making a decision in linear spacetime. I can not seperate the two different perspectives of time, they are one in synthesis; but each one does have a sense of autonomy, with the non-linear mind understanding that its ability to exist beyond time is obstructed by it own knowledge of linear spacetime, and the linear mind is able to experience a sense of trancendal importance by looking into the non-linear part of the mind, and seeing the possibilities of choice.

This is a fascinating serie... Sagan was one of those humble and great man who have tried to teach us something (though he sometimes looked kind of weird, like in that scene where he drinks his blood). It's hard to understand why people refuse to open their minds and accept real facts: Big Bang, Evolution, kiddie porn (just kidding) etc. The main cause of it seems to be ignorance.
