Flat tax is one rate for everyone, it is not what Huckabee wants. Flat tax is an income tax that has one flat rate, no changes regardless of the money you make. What Huckabee wants to do is create a sales tax that will need a lot of work to be fair, creating as much confusion as our current tax system. For instance we will have to distinguish between necessities and luxury items to make it easier for low income earners. User fees like tolls are much better than an income tax.

Just so you know, people already pay 25, 30, and up to 40% sales tax on the stuff they already buy. What the problem is that liberals want to tax the rich and corporations, but guess what? In essence, corporations don't pay these taxes. They offset the cost of paying these taxes by raising the cost of their product or service and pass that on to the consumer. All in all, there won't be a 30% tax anyway as it most likely wouldn't exceed 23%. Now B4 you say that companies wouldn't lower their prices if they didn't pay taxes, there is something that will guarantee that they will and it is called market competition. One company is always trying to outmanuver their rivals and one way to do that is through lowering prices. W/O taxes, companies can do that and as sure as gravity keeps our feet on the ground, companies will be competing to reach the consumer

The other item that the gentleman genius said here was about the rich being taxed more than anyone else and 50% of everyone else isn't paying taxes is completely true. The Top 50% of Wage Earners Pay 96.03% of Income Taxes. Everyone else either gets tax refunds or pays a lesser amount than does the elite rich. And the people with the money are most likely the ones supplying wage earners with the job they now have. Tax the rich more and the jobs the wage earner has just got dumpe in the crapper.

You're wrong on that for the fact mentioned by John. Liberals paint a different scenario based on "feelings" not facts. They paint the picture that portrays the rich & corporations as evil entities that should pander to the poor & share their wealth through taxes. The best way that the rich share wealth is by owning, investing, & providing jobs that the poor can then apply for & work to make a living wage if they choose to do so, not by raising taxes on them. Raise taxes & the jobs go away.

very true...thats why I often vote for the more moderate candidates...never a super conservative or super liberal. I also hate the fact that we have to view all the issues based on just these two viewpoints (liberal/conservative). I am pretty liberal on healthcare and abortion but very conservative on gun-laws. Pretty tough for me to find a candidate like that...

Thanks! I got most if not all my facts from reading John Linder and Neal Boortz's book The FairTax Book. A great read by anyone wanting to learn about the consumption tax, how it works, and how much better it is than the current behemoth and taxing (pardon the pun) tax system. It ain't a thriller by any means, but for a book about taxes, it is entertaining enough to keep your attention while you read it.

Read 'The Millionaire Next Door', etc. by T. Stanley. Those with wealth don't 'realize' income (technically don't 'make money' in that year. They already have it)
For example, $10m at 5% interest = $500,000. But, if the investor only 'withdraws' $250,000, they don't pay tax on the $1,250,000 left over.
Earning $500k pays about $200k in taxes.
Realizing $250k pays $100k.
