Aah yes...Tubular Bells...still within the realm of the Nightmare :) A song with great class but written for that dreaded seventies horromovie "The Exorcist" ^,-,^. Come to think of it... I bet nightmares are the second favorite subject of songs after the love-theme :) Enjoy the retro sound of synthpop :)

Tubular Bells was an entirely original album written by Oldfield, released in 1971.
The opening section was LATER selected for use in the 1973 horror flick "The Exorcist".
If you haven't done so already, go out and listen to the entire album, and enjoy Oldfields' genuis unbesemerched by Hollywood schlock.

Loved the Exorcist, love Tubular Bells. It's interesting, though--Tubular Bells was *also* used effectively in the UK for a skiing documentary, I think, proving it can be eerie in one context and totally the opposite in another. It is truly a transcendent piece of music. Oldfield was 18 when he composed it--frightening. Makes me wonder who he was the reincarnation of...Mozart? Brahms? Chopin? Ommadawn only clinched his genius...and then there was Amarok...

This was the first track that richard bransen's virgin mansion record studio was used to make, without Richard, we'd have no mike oldfield as no one else was even bothering to listen to his stuff. a little known fact for you guys. It was also the first track they released and shot to to number 3 in the chart with the lights of pink floyd and jim Hendrix to compete with.
