After KICKING the side of my computer to get the hard drive to start up (It was only a 1 yr old Maxtor)!!, I knew it was time to clone it as soon as I could before it failed.
I used my Copy Commander 9 Program to make the clone of my old drive on a bigger WD one. Then I decided to back up my wife's computer by cloning her hard drive to another too! Here is how I did it.
Also, if your drives are bigger than the 137 GB barrier allows, then set up the drive in DOS first so your computer "sees" the entire 320GB or what ever size you choose.
And absolutely DON'T FORGET to RUN the "SCANDISK" (tell it to fix errors automatically) on the ORIGINAL drive before copying it over or it will stop in the middle and you will have to start over, as Copy Commander 9 won't let you copy errors....And that is good!

Thats right. That is the whole point. Make an exact copy of your present drive onto a new blank one, and then put in the new one, and keep the original as a spare. You can do it every 6 months, is the way I do it, then you never loose only 6 months of internet upgrades, emails, etc, instead of it all, if lightning strikes the computer.

If you have DVD player, you can set the bios to boot to that first and it will run off the DVD.

Serial mouse Worked. The system blue screened on the first boot after disconnecting the Dell proprietary drive, but seems to be running fine now. I imagine any issues would be because of Dell's meddling.
