This wonderful score was recorded by The maestro in London with choirs and the London Philharmonic Orchestra (at least, they were credited)...
....but apparently MORRICONE redid the orchestra (one of musicians known well to him) in his native Rome, in which case (that being true) the oboeist is Carlo Romano.
You can see an older Carlo perform the work at the United Nations, on the occasion of welcoming the then-new Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon ~

Hi,
Thanks for that. I knew about the LPO but unfortunately no oboist is credited. However, I recently read that it is Gordon Hunt, the orchestra's 1st oboe at that time (something which I suspected).
Carlo Romano also does a fantastic job.

I really do wish that film directors would make sure that whenever someone plays a musical instrument, it is realistic!! His notes are completely wrong. It is awful!!

Excelente pelicula, me acuerdo cuando la vi por primera vez cuando era mas chico, iba a la escuela y la maestra nos hizo verla. Es muy emocionante y realmente llega al corazon, me gusto mucho.
