This is very true, ... ( 3 months ago by ddavidd20)
This is very true, both are geniuses in their respected fields. I think because film and novels are so intertwined that people lose sight of their distinctive aspects that make the medium unique in the first place. But yeah I am an aspiring film-maker/college student, I'm writing a screenplay right now and I'll remember to send you a link to it when it's finished.

I don't know if I believe the cigarette story. I think King might be full of shit. I dont know, thats just my read of it.
king is a jerkoff. ... ( 2 months ago by totallyasimpsonjunki)
king is a jerkoff. He said the tv movie version of the shining(which was complete shit) was better than the original movie. King obviously hated Kubrik. I suspect jealousy, but who knows?

he felt kubrick was trying to fix the "problems" with his book.

Mmmhh, no. I don't remember King ever saying that... Wait, King HATED Kubrick? I don't think so. King basically praises every film that Kubrick made, with the exception of The Shining, of course. I've heard his commentaries before and he really loves Kubrick, that's why he was so excited when he knew that one of his favorite directors was going to make an adaptation from one of his novels. Jealousy? No, you're just the typical idiot who opens his mouth without knowing squat about the subject.

i am very passionate about pretty much all of kubrick's films. I just felt that king's comments about kubrick seemed disrespectful.

That doesn't mean you actually have to invent things that were never, ever said. And I can tell you pretty much that King would never disrespect anyone. Especially when he knows how it is to be an artist, and what it takes to get to that position. All you have to struggle. All he was doing was, as the title says, remembering him. He never actually gave an opinion on Kubrick, or called him names. All he's saying is that Kubrick had an excentric personality, and that's the truth, plain and simple.
King made his own ... ( 2 months ago by Flaggius)
King made his own version because Kubrick's adaption was totally different compared to the book - which I think is much much much better then the movie from 1980. I love Stephen King's version and I don't think you should blame his version, not at all. Keep writin' KING!

I hate this guy. The movie was amazing. His comments seem so disrespectful. Kubrick was a master artist. King's just a washed-up hack.

but honestly. have you read the book? kubrick changed it A LOT and I dont know why its so hard for pepeole to understand that king as a writer want the movies to follow the book, witch the later version does. ok, I like the old one better but I still can understand how king felt about it
King is a genius, ... ( 1 month ago by FixxerAce)
King is a genius, Kubrick was a genius. Enjoy the title in the two forms respectively- Kubrick was however renowned for being hard to work with, none the less he created a masterpiece with his adaptation. If you want to see the best adaptation of a King book, check The Dead Zone with Walken, its excellent!
Well if you read ... ( 1 month ago by Cyberpit2000)
Well if you read King's book - you'd see Kubrick changed many things that are important and gives the story meaning. He took alot of moral pieces out and replaced them with types of violence and horror that King hates, and I can see why, I like the film but alienates the book. And to your comment about King, many people who worked with Kurbrick don't like him, and I think your being disrespectful to one of the greatest writers of all time, and King is just as good as Kubrick in his chosen field.
The Dead Zone is ... ( 1 month ago by Cyberpit2000)
The Dead Zone is good - The Green Mile is just as good - both have excellent scripts by both Frank Darabont and Jeffrey Boam - but for me Green Mile is better - you can't beat Hanks and MCD on screen together - both great films though !
Hold up, how ... ( 1 month ago by FixxerAce)
Hold up, how exactly am I disrespecting King from what I said?????
I think you are mistaken. Surely the fact I said they were both geniuses at the start of my post shows the respect I have for both :S

Sorry Cyberpit, thought you were calling me disrespectful, its late and didnt read the thing right the way through!! My bad!

i respect both King and Kubrickas artists, but i kinda hate what King is saying, Stanley Kubrick is my faveourite director, he was a genius.
I agree. Someone ... ( 1 month ago by rickzowie)
I agree. Someone who worked with Kubrick in Barry Lyndon (according to a Kubrick bio) told Kubrick that as an employer he was an imbecile to work with, but as an artist he was a genius.
I spoke once on the phone with Danny Lloyd's mother, and she described Kubrick as a "genius". Said he was 100% compliant with her and her husband whenever they thought Danny had had enough work for the day of shooting.
According to the ... ( 1 month ago by FixxerAce)
According to the featurette on the DVD, Shelley Duvall was reduced to tears constantly by him whilst filming the final scenes of the film when Lloyd was in the snow and Nicholson was on the hunt for them, she was ready for walking off at the time, but concluded with what he was doing was working her up for the dramatic effect of the movie, and it worked!! Still quite a radical way to get results! Its on More4 on the 25th July btw for UK viewers! Barry Lyndon is on tonight!

I respect both King and Kubrick....It
´s a well known fact that Kubrick made a "scary movie" from the Shining(very well)...but it´s also a well known fact that Stephen King think the novel is about alcoholism and that was lost in Kubricks version

Stanley Kubrick ... ( 3 weeks ago by jayMaze5)
Stanley Kubrick only made movies he saw fit in his imagination that he read from others books, thats it! Now it's true King HATED "the shining" but, Kubrick worked with every novelist he adaped movvies from, with his oun interpetation including Art Clark (2001) whom loves Kubricks work. King does not need to bash Kubrick...every Kubrick film has been a hit including "the shining" If Stephen King didn't like it, thats within his own insucurity. Hands down.
When King sees "The ... ( 2 weeks ago by 666theboogieman666)
When King sees "The Shining" as an adaptation of his book, he doesn't like it, but when he sees it as a stand-alone film, he praises it. Proof of this is his "Danse Macabre" book, where he doesn't only include "Shining" on a list of the Horror films he loves, but also says a lot of nice things about it and about Kubrick. SK loves Kubrick's work as well (he's one of his fav. directors), and he's not bashing him, he's just letting us know that he had an excentric personality, and that's the truth.
