A portrait of a Writer's Guild picket line. Each year, Hollywood produces a spate of Network TV shows and a couple dozen Studio feature films. With over 7,000 Writers Guild members, it's clear not everyone is employed.
While the mainstream media barrages us with images of red carpet and caviar success stories, the reality is most professionals working in the entertainment industry are middle-class at best. Directed by Peter Hyoguchi Edited by Patrick Francis Music composed by Christopher James Thomas

Wonderfully powerful video. Stay strong. The WGA will win this!!
Although I totally ... ( 9 months ago by MWood919)
Although I totally support the WGA and this strike, this video just made me SERIOUSLY reconsider my aspirations to be a screenwriter. Could you, by any chance, make a video exploring the GOOD side of being a writer? I could use it right about now.

The music is amazing. It reminds me of the soundtrack for Firefly. Do you have any other work available online cjt?

Oh...boohoo. You can't support your 3 kids being a writer. THEN DONT BE A WRITER OR DONT HAVE SO MANY KIDS! It's hard for me to be sympathetic to people who just make poor life or career choices. Sorry.

Do you even understand what the fight is for? The way you speak makes it sound like you have NO idea. Maybe you should get a clue before you start spouting off?
Disregard the ... ( 9 months ago by Writer10X)
Disregard the voices of ignorance. There are actually people who know nothing of the value of doing what you love (writing) and/or having what you love (family/kids). Michael Tabb and others, we support you. The WGA will get through this!

I want to thank the wga for posting this video about the writers. It certainly has been an eye opener who make constant sacrifices in order to practice their craft. I write but I knew I could not rely on this to pay my bills so I received training in another area. The entertainment industry isnt the only industry that is greedy. One can see it in other industries. Case in point the healthcare industry, Insurance industry.

I am a Canadian actor and I totally support the WGA strike! I sat in the room with the AMPTP to fight for CDN actors over a very long year, they don't negotiate they bully and claim they are making no money?! Off of all of our backs AMPTP! Go WGA!!!Stop the BULLIES!

The AMPTP came to Canada too& wanted the Actors here to work for next to nothing! There motto, A days work for a days pay, they don't care if they shot two episodes that day & put them on the internet...they don't want to pay for residuals! Go WGA!

I look forward to DGA and SAG giving the AMPTP a very difficult time...It is time to pay for what you sell and claim to make no money....we are not stupid people in this business....AMPTP makes loads of money, they drive their Lexus to pick up their Ferrari's!

Thank you FlyingMonkey, for having the courage to voice an opinion contrary to the majority; you're not being ignorant just because you disagree. This video could be making a perfectly valid point if it wasn't so packed with emotional blackmail. Shots of injured feet? Mournful music? And yes, I understand what "the fight is for". I also understand that this video is misleading, especially to me, as an aspiring writer and supporter of direct action. Please continue the fight without pomposity.

Later I'd like to be scriptwriter but it seems so hard to do it. I live in France and here it is as hard as in the USA or more...

You fail to see ... ( 7 months ago by xmomslilmonstrx)
You fail to see that their job happens to be their dream. Just because it happens to be in the entertainment field doesn't mean it should be considered a pipe dream. What if my dream was to be a nurse? Or school teacher? If I have to be put to protesting so I can better my career, then so be it. My dream job isn't paying the bills, but why shouldn't I fight. It's my JOB. I'm just fantastically lucky that my job ended up being my dream job. Something I loved doing.

Also, what kind of coward are you... sticking your tail between your legs and running off when times get tough. You have to stand up for your rights and fight for what you are worth. I'm sure none of these people left their family high and dry. Their families more than likely backed them 100%

FlyingMonkey is being ignorant in his/her comment. You're supposed to be an aspiring writer? Reread it and figure where he was being ignorant.
You miss my point; ... ( 7 months ago by Gomess)
You miss my point; we fundamentally disagree on how we define ignorance.
But, as is usual with YouTube, those who disagree with the majority, or the values being expressed by a video, are pressganged into thinking they're wrong by a vocal minority. Wouldn't be surprised if I saw a few -1s on my comment! Please, feel free. Of course, the strike's over now, and I just h
ope you folk continue to support these people, as the deal is tenuous at best.

Obviously we do. But in all technicality, there is only but on definition of "ignorant" and he was, infact, ignorant. I don't care about the -'s or +'s that everyone likes to hand out. If I have enough of a "disliking" or "appreciation" for someones comment, I'll actually reply to them.

Hes right actually ... ( 7 months ago by 02skippy02)
Hes right actually lol. He shouldn't of had three kids if he couldn't afford to have them.
He wasn't ignorant, he was being cras. Ignorance is an indication of being poorly educated, his comment was not. He's also right about the job thing, I mean if he's not earning enough in writing to support his family he should supplement his income in another way. Sometimes dreams don't work out,
and perhaps he should accept that.
First of all, most ... ( 7 months ago by xmomslilmonstrx)
First of all, most people who have children can't and won't ever be able to afford them. Second, I think what was said was that he had a well paying job, then got into writing. Then from there when it wasn't good he wrote again joined the guild then hit trouble till this strike. He was definitely ignorant. He's lacking knowledge of a subject. Subject being a writer. How do you know that he doesn't have a side job to get through? And who are you to tell someone to give up on their dream?
