Growing up in NM, I wasn't really exposed to a lot of prejudice. Me & the other kids I knew thought the rebel flag just stood for "being a rebel" (in general). It wasn't until I moved to Florida and was exposed to hardcore old-south prejudice that I learned how offensive it was.

The confederate flag should appear in history but not appear in the present. This is a mute point its like if the Germans just went ahead and started to fly the Nazi Flag right under the nation's flag at their state house. One doing such a thing is in poor taste, Two your sending one hell of a wrong signal to the people that view it.

Every flag has blood on it like the man said but every flag has a deeper meaning also. The American Flag has the ideal of "Every man is created equal" just to quote Adlai Stevenson "It is often easier to fight for principles than to live up to them." And the Confederate flag's ideal was the complete opposite of the American ideal. We still fight for that Ideal even today. We all fight for the idea that all men are created equal and that all men have a chance for a better life.

Trace said the American killed Indians, but failed to say that the American government knows that and publicly said sorry and gave special grants and lands and laws to those that are of Indian heritage. I have still yet to see a southern state come forward and do such a thing. Taking down that flag so it would not appear in the present would be a start.

Today we hide under anti-communism but anti-terrorism, racism, religion. And every day we as a culture and a people fall backward deeper and deeper into the hole we are trying to get out of.
