Typical response coming from a fellow American, albeit naive. I lived in Italy for many years and violent crime is NOT a concern there like it is where you can be jumped or shot anywhere in America. Petty thefts occur more often there, but not of violent nature.

I just got back yesterday from Venice. Absolutely beautiful. We spent the whole time walking through the streets, going to the usual tourist hotspots. Enjoying every minute.

The City and all the islands surrounding the main city are balanced upon wooden stakes in the canal, the cities foundations are crumbling so it will slowly sink under the weight,evidence is in some of the bell towers, they lean like the famous leaning tower.
