Cool; first time hearing this song, it's pretty sweet, and the video makes it that much better. This video is going on my favorites.

this is pretty good. i'm quite a fan of Burton, depending on the movie. I really love the song. the use of the of drive in movie for the narrative structure is really smart. but, while the whole skeleton thing is really cool, it's not exactly the most inventive or interpretive idea - it's rather literal, which is cute, if that's what was intended.

Another example of how CG is spiritless -- even Tim Burton becomes a bland visualist through it; not to say all the time, but there are certain areas where it looks and moves too cleanly. And it so often has no distinction. No signature.
I know he loves Jason and the Argonauts, but it seems an odd nod and homage when you're using what killed its art form...although maybe that's a clever statement on the effects industry, come to think of it.
Lifeless like the grim reaper.

Its tableau and structure are very Burton, very visually dense and clever, though.
Death is inevitable(?), as represented by the avoidance technique of film and its iconic moments (frozen youth, a linear loop, but only in the end a reminder of how quickly time passes) and all that dies outside it, including most specific to statement and era in the piece, the drive-in.
It's a literal ...( 4 weeks ago by sunshinebutmorerain)
It's a literal visualization of the lyrics, yes, but I think what's clever about it is how it manages to fit into Burton's auteurism, making those visuals thematically-connective and philosophically trenchant just as strongly.
A great deal of Burton's work is focused on death, and this is a concise treatise on his feelings...well, maybe more like arguments.
Burton is an ...( 4 weeks ago by sunshinebutmorerain)
Burton is an amazing stylist, even when the most overt form of that let's him down -- as I think it does here through the cg.
Accidently or not, the great part about that is, in this instance, that the base visual flaws are a thematic strength in a circular manner then creating for an adroit sub or side-thematic structure on technology (how itself was or can be an art, and how it can just as easily die as anything else) that comes about through what is on the surface a sort of ineptitude.
I think it also ...( 4 weeks ago by sunshinebutmorerain)
I think it also speaks to a battle between nature and technology, and how specific forms of older tech -- stop-motion for instance -- was somehow more passionate and "real" than what replaced it.
The childhood obsession is chiefly present as well, and perfectly follows through and under the main thematic umbrella of death.
Even the beach and desert speak to that -- sand in an hourglass; ashes to ashes, dust to dust -- as well as the conjunctional nature of sex vis a vis death.
Nature versus tech, ...( 4 weeks ago by sunshinebutmorerain)
Nature versus tech, then, but also how technology, along with sex, is a push towards something new -- creation and replacement -- as an avoidance technique of death, even though it either hastens it or is simply a part of an inescapable cycle.
All these things natural on one level even when sometimes not on another.
Very well executed.

The last thing a dope needs is pot.
Besides, Burton's the dealer, and high on life through the selfsame product known as expressionism.
In other words, learn something. Again, probably a toxic or disagreeable mix for a fool, which is your only real contribution here (the assertion of your idiocy, in case you missed even that).
The thing about ignorance and those who adhere to it is that it rarely dissipates. I doubt we're about to have an epiphany or exception in your case.

The sea and pool assert the same thematic thread while inserting further or separate symbolic fables or cliches -- liquidity as both form and formlessness, thusly instant ephemeris; here now, gone in nearly the same instant, always shifting.
That's life...and death.

Ah, you misunderstand my sentiment. You sir, are a tool in the highest regard. I can only assume that your continually over intellectual assesment of this video is either the result of rampant drug abuse, or due to your being picked on mercilessly as a child. You feel a need to feel superior to those around you. Not unusual on youtube in general as most of the users/posters are in the teens to mid 20's. Then there is the third possibility. Failed film student. Either way do as thou wilt. Im done

"I can only assume that your continually over intellectual assesment of this video"
We agree: the video's too smart for you.
Your ability and understanding of artistic intent -- the nonexistence therein -- explains why you're a 31 year old posting under a profile dedicated to a production house nobody knows of or gives a shit about, displaying a video of your hick cuz 'crying'+smearing jizz on his face.
And you have the nerve to complain about what others do here?!? You epitomize retardation.
