The answer is the ... ( 8 months ago by dcolarusso)
The answer is the charged particles in an atom, and all objects do have magnetic properties. It's just that not all objects have ferromagnetic properties. For example, try Googling "diamagnetism."
Thanks for the ... ( 8 months ago by DingoRunner)
Thanks for the response. What properties do magnets' atoms have? I mean, what is different in the atoms of a magnet that gives them ferromagnetic properties.
Given the word ... ( 8 months ago by dcolarusso)
Given the word limit here, it's probably best just to direct you to Google again. Basically it has to do with "magnetic domains."
I would like to ... ( 8 months ago by dumalucky)
I would like to know what relationship a magnet has with the earths magnetic field? Also is it true that magnets will loose power faster if in an 'empty' space away from a planets magnetic field. And if so why? thanks

no, the lines just represents how the magnectic field go.... it is unlimited (if u talk about the lines)
first question: it ... ( 4 months ago by phamnguyenquang)
first question: it is unlimited Second question : Yes (u cannot draw 1 magnetic line or else ppl will not understand) Third Question: No, it is just the represence of scientists for their explaination about the field

In the video it said magnetic field lines start at north and end at south. ACTUALLY unlike electric field lines, magnetic field lines DO NOT "start" or "end" anywhere. you can imagine them like continuous closed loop that has no point to begin and end.

n the video it said "magnetic field lines start at a north pole and end at a south pole"--Actually unlike electric field lines which terminate at an electric charge, magnetic field lines DO NOT "start" or "end" anywhere. Rather you can imagine magnetic field lines as a continuous closed loop.

ok, but you stated the question 'what is the magnetic field?' it's not just lines on a paper, leading from N to S. what is behind the phenomenon? i was realy curious what you were going to show, when i saw the title you put on your video.
I could be wrong, ... ( 3 months ago by GSpotter63)
I could be wrong, but magnetic field lines sure look a lot like standing wave patterns to me. When these waves pass through matter with the appropriate arrangement of atoms then they are either pushed together or pushed apart. If this is correct, then perhaps one could reproduce these standing waves (a magnetic field) using simple wave modulation (I.E. radio waves) instead of coils of wire to force the atoms to spin together.

dude. ofcourse you can! the only problem is the amount of magnets you need. therefor people would make an electromagnetic rink
Think of the lines ... ( 1 month ago by dcolarusso)
Think of the lines like contour lines on a topographical map. There is no correct number of lines to draw. In fact, there are an infinite number of lines one could draw. What is important is that they communicate the proper relationship between one place and another. Where the magnetic field is stronger there are "more" lines. This is analogues to contour lines, where the mountain is steeper there are more lines. How many you have depends on the scale you choose.
