Young Judy Garland sings "(Dear Mr. Gable) You Made Me Love You" on this 1937 Decca recording. Some of you will recognize George Hurrell, Clarence Sinclair Bull, Laszlo Willinger, and Russell Ball among the photographers shown here. Clark Gable movie stills are from: "After Office Hours" with Constance Bennett (1934), "Hold Your Man" with Jean Harlow (1933), "It Happened One Night" with Claudette Colbert (1934), and "Possessed" with Joan Crawford (1931). Candid pic is with Gilbert Roland, Constance Bennett, and Louella Parsons (1945). Though Max and I have donated some of these in other forms to Dr. Macro's long ago, we recently received these photos and they will be restored and donated to his Clark Gable Annex page some time in the future: http://www.doctormacro.info/

For men, I love that classic Hollywood '30's look. For women, however, I have to admit, I like those '50's 'ladylike' looks.
Cyd Charisse in "Silk Stockings" & Kim Novak in "Vertico" & "Picnic" still make me wanna take a private moment...to myself...-_^!!!

Not too many people realize the characters Clark Gable acted were mostly part of himself. Up until the late 1020's he was a lumberjack until he landed a studio job. Piloted several bombers during WW2 bombing raids as well. Much like Jimmy Stewart. What you saw was what was there. These guys didn't have to act; They were in many ways,the real Americans/real American heros.

That was true of Old Hollywood too :) Some of the stars were like Gable and Jimmy Stewart but not all. During the War, not only did many of the male stars step but so did many of the female stars... Myrna Loy, Mary Pickford, and many others spent countless hours fighting for the War Effort and visiting the troops. Some of today's stars do put themselves behind things that matter. Dennis Leary comes to mind. Oh there must be others. But you're right, most are just no-talent, do nothing jerks.
