Pres George W Bush's speech on the future of Iraq on January 10, 2007, offered few real solutions to the ethnic problems in the region, so I put together a solution of my own. In putting together my solution, I fairly used material from a variety of sources.

We have a responsibility to the Iraqi people to rebuild their nation because as you said, we did cause the mess. On the other hand, our troops cannot stay in the middle of a civil conflict untli the Iraqi's decide to stop shooting each other. All the surge is doing is prolonging the ineveitable, which is a political agreement between the Sunnis, Shiites, & Kurds. This is the only way out of Iraq.

We need to get help from other nations, because they want an Iraq which is stable, because Iraq determines the balance of power in the region. All of the nations around it want more influence in Iraq, so we need them to reach an agreement. Also, this "congress of vienna" must not become like the Treaty of Versailles, and lead to other wars. The U.S. must respect all interests and have the U.N. enforce the treaty, and make sure it has force to back it up, we don't want another league of nations.

Because the United States wanted control of the Canal, it was dug in 1903, because they wanted to dig the canal and control a large amount of trade a revenue. By helping Panama rebel, they received the canal site. It's all economics, they wanted to tax that trade route so they would get rich. They also needed that government to stay in power so that it would continue to let them have control of the canal. So the U.S. takes control through the 20th century to protect it's econ interests.

On Noth Korea, shouldn't they be allowed to have their government, Wilsonian self determination? Although they are cruel, what can we do, it would be another Iraq, just with China having a bunch of Nukes in our face, trying to gain control, and Russia would be on our side this time, no one wants to see that. Wars lead to more wars, if you use diplomacy that is successful, you can avoid a massive breakout of war, much like the congress of Vienna did until WWI.

Boycotting the Olympics is wrong, though, China would be smart to start some kind of talks with the Dhali Lama before they have to deal with radical tibetans, you might have another religious war on your hands. Rather like Iraq.

My puny knowledge of politics informs me that for a democracy to be successful, the potential constituency must have food, shelter, and peace; basic necessities must be met before people can even posit on politics. I think -and this is pretty crude, I know- the US has to occupy Iraq while distributing food, providing shelter, etc., and once needs are met, allow the Iraqi people to participate in a genuine democratic election. Once there is a legitimate gov't, they can bring the kids home.

Every war has the ultimatum of "do this or die". That's war.
Keep in mind that Saddam had surrendered UNCONDITIONALLY after the first war, Clinton acted as if the surrender never happened, and never held Saddam accountable for escalating his atrocities.
Why after 2 wars why would America settle for anything less than a democratic Iraq? You seem to think we are there to steal oil, not to help eradicate tyranny. Where are the tankers full of this oil we have stolen? Is it in Denmark?

Why is democracy better than a theist government or totalitarianism? Really? You seem to be asking how Americans can feel justified in forcefully replacing one government with another.
If someone says "convert to Islam or Die" it's the same as "give us control of your thoughts and minds". In contrast Americans are demanding the Iraq government, empowers its PEOPLE with individual rights, and the ability to remove unresponsive or corrupt government officials peacefully.

I'm in complete awe. This is the first thing i've ever seen on Youtube that made sense. I agree with the proposal at the end albeit its probably impossible to get them all on one page. I think hes probably so monotonous about the situation so that he can present the information in a completely unbiased way.
