The Led Zeppelin version is a travesty..I like it when musicians create something new from a song but you dont throw out all the feeling and soul of a song as great as this.

Listen to Blind Willie's slide playing...for all Jimmy Page's great guitar technique and ability no one can play slide like the original - who died in poverty after catching pneumonia when his house burned down and he had nowhere too live...

and found out just how much of their music they took from the blues men,changed there words and music just enough so they didnt have
to give them any money...or even put there names on the albums,

I dont wanna get into a long drawn out conversation but Zeppelin did credit the authors on the majority of their songs. (Check the albums). The ones that they didn't give credit to, I'm sure their lawyers were giving advice. Page and Plant are musicians, and very fine innovative, talented guys. Plant mentions his influences in his interviews constantly and give them constant praise for what they gave to him...

Whole Lotta Love takes some lyrics from an old blues called 'You Need Love' by Willie Dixon.Zeppelin took old blues numbers and made them completely their own.the only thing they did wrong was admittedly Jimmy Page "forgot" to give credit to the old blues artists in the album sleeve credits

Whether or not you think the Zep versions are a travesty or brilliant is just a matter of taste. By "re-creating" songs that draw a lot from the old blues all they did was follow in the tradition followed by bluesmen like Robert Johnson. Are you gonna slate Elmore James for taking the credit for Dust My Broom? I personally have four versions of "The Sky is Crying" by different artists and they're all different and all brilliant!!! Its treating the blues as untouchable that nearly killed it!

Led Zepplin are a travesty, they may have the authors credited one current presses of their albums but thats only because of the law suits, this is a cultrual white wash. Not saying I expect everyone to stop likeing them just stop treating them like some sort of infalable god cause they ain't.

I can't speak for everyone but for me; Zeppelin, and in particular Plant, is like a Finely Tuned Instrument. Anything they play sounds good to me. You can FEEL the music inside of yourself. I can't explain that to you. It's a feeling. And the only reason I ever use the words "Godlike" and such as that is because there really isn't a word to describe it better at the time...They are powerful and leaders and legends.

I certainly agree with you. Zeppelin were/are amazing but they didnt credit the original authors or musicians on their albums. But its ok tho....some of the original guys sued and won. Willie Dixon for one. I like Zeppelin's cover of this a lot. But I think the original is in a class of its own. Maybe the covers can bring people's attention to the originals.
