In 1979 while searching and seeking for truth and love, God spoke to me through the lyrics of this song. I couldn't get them out of my head, and realized that it was Everlasting Love that I needed more than anything. That love was revealed to me a year later, in Jesus Christ. I have never been the same since, and this song still gives me goose bumps. "The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: '"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.'" Jeremiah 3:13

What a fantastic song. I grew up with my parents playing this R & B music in our home. I remember a party they gave once and seeing them dancing together laughing and really having a great time to this song. What a charished memory from my childhood this song brings back for me seeing my parents that happy and in love. I often wondered who sang this song, and now I know. Great to finally put a face to that wonderful voice. Thank you for the video.

I absolutely love this song. The version by Robert Knight is great too. I was a teenager when this came out. It still sounds as good as ever.

My favorite song to worship God by back then was Gerry Rafferty's, "Right Down the Line." God touched my heart many times through the simple songs of that time. I'm sure someone could find fault with that, but really my heart was just looking to find and express the good, the true, and the beautiful. Nothing heavy--just real easy. Now, I'm enjoying this song in this way.

impressive that mr. carlton can sing this after all these years without dropping the key 2 steps down like so many other moldy oldies his age. and speaking of moldy, please lord let that not be me and my wife in an audience like this in 20 years watching a 70-year-old Rollins or Westerberg or someone...

IMO, Carl's 1974 version is the best and at least as good as the original hit by Robert Knight (1967) and the cover by Love Affair (which was #1 in UK in 1968). According to BMI, Everlasting Love (by Carl) was the most played song of the 1970s. You should listen to the versions by Robert Knight and U2, both are very good. However, Carl's performance of this song in his prime (1974) was simply stunning!
