difference of opinion. i think the act WAS poetry. i see it as a metaphorical, and literal, erasure as the term was implied by duchamp. an (implied) erasing of the father figure, dekoonings own recounting of the story implies, "he knew what this young artist was up to...". i was sad when all that art burned.

proof of your ... ( 5 months ago by MrWowforever)
proof of your armchair opinion; as if 'googling' the artists mentioned gives you the ability to realistically judge their work. rothkos work was specifically about the viewer engaging the paintings in person, live. he designed the rothko chapel in Houston so that people could see the paintings, live.your sad effort to imply that a 3rd grader could build the stretchers, buy the materials, compose the paintings, conceptualize the relationship with his audience and build a chapel are sad.

Yes googling DOES give any of us the ability to look at the artwork. If artwork requires a description, it's something other than art, it's literature. I don't care about a Rothko "chapel". I can look at his art and it's indistinguishable from that of a well trained toddler who smears paint in rectangular blocks. I find it very sad that some people consider such BS "art".

googling allows you to see a mediated image of lots of stuff, i agree. but, i got a BFA in texas and when i moved to NYC in 1996 alot of art i saw in reproduction was less interesting in person. also seeing some art 'in person' drastically changed my opinion. my point is that actually seeing something is radically different than a mediated image; arts' meaning is in this subtlety. i stand by the last sentence of my last comment as per the '3rd grader analogy'. seriously, why bother if u hate so?

so when, and if,you actually go to a museum or gallery you are just, 'sad about all the BS(art)'. you also imply that all art professionals are, what, idiots(functioning at a 3rd grade level). Good stuff:)

it's also interesting that your first analogy using a third grader was 'an average kid in 3rd grade', but the third grader in your last analogy was a 'well-trained toddler'. It seems with each comment against your analogy that your '3rd grader' gets more and more talented. you never address any of the honest questions everyone here asks you. you are like morley safer on 60 minutes, baffled by the wierd modern art. if you had an intelligent counter argument i would listen, but you don't.

any real artist or art conessuier (ex:myself) knows your an idiot if you think googling an image is the same as seeing it.

You're a fucking major retard for your comments on Rothko.....to reduce his work to the trained toddler shows a complete inability to let art speak to you. Look at the extent of his excursions into his style and place art in it's historical context. Re-educate yourself dickhead.

such hostility against posting (while posting)....should we all give up on our opinions and become hippies, drop out and get back in touch? this is fun for some of us.... what comes after the complaining? :)

i think you missed my point and proved it at the same time. I dont mean hostility towards posting. My qualm is with the arguments that arise from dissagreements that arise from misunderstandings that are due to the weak communicational qualities of posting and the general use of language over electronic devices. Either way every ones opinion is valid regardless of what it is. i see how i have fallen victim also.

:) i hear you, i'm not trying to change the persons mind i 'argue' with, only present a counter opinion to silly points; "a third grader could make this" or "the art world is about connections only". these 'points' are worth a basic debating, and since others can read them that adds to the fiction, not the argument: it's a game :)thanks for your considerate response:)

I have always been enchanted by RR act of erasing another painter's work. I will always consider this act to be at the very top of what art is supposed to be... an expression. Thank you Robert Rauchenberg. Thank you for giving us this amazing expression of art.

I think its interesting how he erased a drawing that was worth almost
£15,000 by a well known artist then 2 years later used his own bed as a canvas as he didn't have anything else to paint on!!!! crazy, poetic ideas from one of the greatest artists of all time!!! rest in peace Rauschenberg :-)

That's horrible robert rauschberg passed away, he was the king of pop art, and the found objects he made with his paintings, why can't he still be alive, and leave it at Charleton heston passing away??
